"Damn you, Sakunosuke Oda... You tricked me."
"I still haven't forgive you for it." BEAST Akutagawa said grumbling while Oda scratched his head sheepishly.
Five, then six kids were taking turns jumping on Akutagawa.
"Yay!"
"Whee!"
"He's just like a slide!"
"I just can't seem to imagine Akutagawa around kids." Atsushi said.
"Is that an insult Jinko?" Akutagawa asked dangerously while Beast Atsushi watched the scene with amusement.
The children squealed and shouted as they slid down Akutagawa's backwhile he lay on the ground. None of the kids were any older than ten, andthere were a few children around three years old who were enviouslywatching them from the side.
"The mighty Akutagawa A.K.A Mad dog is being used as a children's slide" Tachihara commented making BEAST Akutagawa glare at Oda again.
"Sorry about all this. I really appreciate the help, though," said therestaurant's owner with a laugh. He was standing by the doorway andwearing a yellow apron.
"I was worried the kids were gonna get lonely withOda out of town, but seems they'll be just fine from the looks of it.Anyway, I've gotta get back down and run the restaurant. I'm countin' onya."
"Wai—"Akutagawa tried to call for help, but the kid sitting on his head ended upsilencing him with his butt.
"Don't you dare-" Beast Akutagawa tried to warn but it was too late. Everyone in the reaction room burst out laughing at his expense. Even Akutagawa couldn't keep a straight face at that even though it was his alternate self suffering there.
Akutagawa was in one of the rooms in the restaurant's adjoining rowhouse. He used his skill to create a tent over his body to protect himselfwhile he pulled out his cell phone and punched in Oda's phone number.
"Oh. Hey, Akutagawa," came Oda's flat voice on the other side of theline. "What's up?"
"Don't play dumb, you traitor," Akutagawa hissed. "'Just play withsome kids, and it'll be over before you know it'? You clearly only wantedme to take over babysitting duty for you. More importantly...how many ofthem are there? Are you planning on building an army or something?"
In between his job at the detective agency, Oda would take in and fosterorphans who had nowhere to go. He used to rent the second floor of therestaurant, but it was getting crowded, so he moved everyone to thetenement next door. They had become a huge family.
"I think there are fifteen altogether, but I don't plan on making anarmy."
"If they all have a special ability, the that is more than enough to make an army." Mori said.
"Children are not meant to be used in the army." Fukuzawa said sternly.
"They are not going to be children for ever are they? Just make them loyal now and it would be helpful later on." Mori said.
"Thanks for the advise but I'm not making an army any time soon." Oda said cutting of the conversation while Yosano muttered "sick bastard" under her breath.
"It was a figure of—Hmph. It doesn't matter." Akutagawa scowled. "Atany rate, I find it hard to believe you can raise this many orphans on theagency's salary... How are you earning enough to take care of them?"
"That's a secret." Oda let out a faint, almost inaudible laugh. "I left alist of tasks with the owner that I'd like for you to take care of on my behalf.I'm counting on you, Akutagawa. It's your job to look after the kids, as theoldest one there."
"A list? There are even more—"However, Akutagawa suddenly realized something midsentence.
"Wait... 'The oldest one there'? Are you saying I'm the same as them?Is that why you saved me at the riverside?"
"You've got this, Akutagawa."
"Why you—!"But Akutagawa's cries proved fruitless, for Oda had already hung up.
"It's pointless to argue with Oda once he's made up his mind." Beast Akutagawa said, heaving a very loud sigh.
