When We Touch (part 2) 🔥

Start from the beginning

His hand lifted from the wheel just long enough to brush your shoulder, protectively, instinctively. "Hang on tight, Princess."

You barely had time to register the warmth of his touch before he honked the horn, taunting the men to exit the van again, enraged. This time, Moon Baek didn't wait and shot forward, giving you no chance to scream nor breathe.

"MOON!" You gasped.

The van loomed closer and then—a high pitched screech as he slammed the brakes. You were one inch, one single inch, from impact. The men stumbled backward inside the van, crippling on top of each other. Your stomach dropped but Moon Baek only laughed, satisfied.

"Man, what a bunch of pussies."

You stared at him, the audacity offended you but at the same time impressed you. Even in the adrenaline, the fear, the insanity of this night, your heart dared to race for him.

He, yet again, drove backwards but this time coming to a stop. The men angrier than ever, rushed out with weapons in hand. Moon Baek didn't seem intimidated by them, he turned to you, pouting as if this bored him. "Let me show you something." Your heart lurched as he stepped out of the car. The moment he shut the door, the men surged toward him with metal pipes, knives, anything they could hold. There were too many but Moon Baek looked entertained.

He sidestepped the first swing with a laugh, light and delighted, and drove his elbow into the attackers jaw. The man dropped and another lunged. Moon twisted, catching him by the throat and slamming him down. It was effortless and breathtaking.

Is this really the same man who claimed he was dying? Weak? Sick? No. There was nothing fragile about him.

His eyes were glowing alive with a thrill that shouldn't belong in a fight like this. He smiled as another man rushed at him, and Moon simply ducked and kicked the man off. Then he yanked the van door open and dove in without fear. Your heart froze, because the ones he'd already taken down were getting up. Several stormed into the van after him, and for the first time tonight, you saw Moon Baek falter. A choked sound broke from inside, he was pinned, struggling.

You weren't going to watch him get killed.

You tore through the car like your life depended on it, hands shaking, until your fingers touched something cold and metal wedged beneath the seat. A taser gun. You didn't think twice. "Moon Baek!" you screamed, as you ran out.

The first man you saw inside had an arm locked around Moon's throat, forcing him down. You raised the taser nervously and fired. He convulsed and his grip fell away. Moon took his chance—kicking, slamming, dragging the others out until they tumbled like rag dolls. A final groan sounded, then silence. He exhaled hard, then looked at you.

Not angry, not proud either. "Damn woman," he breathed, eyes dragging over you, slow and bold. "Thanks, but I told you to stay in the car, didn't I?"

"Technically no," you shot back. "And if I did, you'd be dead." You tossed the taser at his chest, he caught it easily.

Silence fell, neither of you blinked, neither of you dared to speak. Moon Baek just looked at you, as if thinking of something, particularly about you, as he eyed every inch of your face down to your chest, shamelessly.

You turned to escape, your pulse a frantic drum and that's when his hand wrapped around your wrist, pulling you back to him. Your body collided with his chest, his hand slid to your waist, fingers pressing lightly, testing how close you'd let him be. His forehead dipped toward you, eyes locked to your lips. "There's something about you, Y/N," he whispered low, almost reverent. Your heart made the decision before your mind could protest.

You kissed him.

His lips crashed into yours instantly, hungry, like he had been yearning for this moment since the second he laid eyes on you. His hair tangled in your hair, the other anchoring you harder against him. You felt him breathe you in, like he wanted to keep every oart of you inside his lungs. Heat flooded you, need twisted violently through your core. His hand spread across your waist, as though he intended to memorise the shape of you through proximity alone, his other hand sliding to the back of your neck with a possessive, trembling reverence that contradicted his usual bravado. His lips moved against yours with punctual greed, tasting defiance, fear and every forbidden heartbeat you tried to hide, his breath mingling with yours. The world dissolved into the intoxicating pressure of him; cigarette smoke, adrenaline, cologne and roses. The realisation struck, he could be the very monster haunting your nights. A tiny gasp escaped you, panic slicing through desire, and you wrenched yourself back leaving his hands suspended in the space where your body had just been.

Moon Baek's eyes, wild and shining a moment ago, now dimmed wounded. "I'm sorry," he muttered, "I went too far with the kiss..." His voice was gentle, uneasy, and that hurt more than his cocky confidence. "No, truly! It's me, I—"

A crash erupted from the house down the street...Lee Do!
Moon Baek's entire body snapped to attention, he grabbed your hand and pulled you into the car. The tires screeched as he reached the house to the far end of the area. The front door burst open, Lee Do stumbled out, carrying a frail elderly woman. His eyes met yours as you and Moon Baek rushed out of the car. "Backseat," he orders, his voice hoarse. "Stay with her. Both of you."

There's no room for argument, Moon Baek guides you with a firm hand to the car, his fingers pressing once into the small of your back as if to silently anchor you. You scramble into your backseat with the woman, and he follows, shutting the door as Lee Do slams into the drivers seat speeding into the night.

"M-mister..." the elderly woman breathes, voice fragile as she clutches weakly at Moon Baek's jacket with surprising familiarity. "Thank you...for coming back."

You freeze, staring. For coming back? His jaw tightens, there's a flicker of regret and guilt. Yet, when he turns to her, his expression softens into a heartbreaking gentleness you've never seen. "Don't talk," he murmurs, brushing her knuckles with a tenderness that doesn't fit the man who just smiled through violence. "Save your strength. You're safe now."

Who is he to her?

Your gaze lingers on his profile, Moon Baek senses you watching, slowly he turns his head toward you. The hospital comes into view ahead, the detective's voice cuts through. "Hold on back there." You obey but your thoughts are chaos.

You told yourself the kiss meant nothing. But the way he looked at you now, like he already owned your fate, made you wonder if the real gun pointed at your heart...was him.
