I hope that's not true though. I do really like Hailey.

Since Millys plan didn't work all that well, I decided to ask haileys childhood friend Luke!

It actually worked really well because Luke had gotten to school significantly earlier than the scheduled time for rehearsal to study. Me on the other hand had accidentally got the time wrong and came super early to school. Luke would typically walk with Hailey and Zander, but since he was going to study; he went alone.

"Luke, you're haileys childhood friend! You should know what she wants or like how to get her to like me!" I grin.

"Oh that's right, you like Hailey!" He says as he flips the textbook.

I nod ecstatically. "I'm gonna be honest with you Jake," he sighs looking up to where I was sat in the corner of the room. "Im not 100% sure although I do think that Hailey, even if it was just a little, actually liked you around early or mid last year. It was when you were crushing on Daisy and I guess she just assumed you'd always like Daisy so she moved on. That or she just became really good at hiding it. I think it was a couple weeks after the music competition, during the time we all teased you about asking Daisy out. Well Hailey came up to me and was telling me how she felt weird when Sean asked you about making a move or something, she told me she was scared you and hers dynamic would change if she ever came to terms with it. She never told me what exactly she felt but I assumed that was her feelings towards you."

I felt like I'd been physically slapped or punched in the face. How could I have been so blind this whole time ?? Here Hailey was, treating me so well, caring so much—and I was off liking someone else who did not want me!?

I collapsed onto the floor dramatically, groaning while Luke had a pityful chuckle.

"Have you made it obvious you like her now?" Luke asked turning back to his books. "Yeah! Of course I do!" I grin.

"No Jake- I mean like actually make it obvious. Not just stare at her google eyed or flirt with her horribly." Luke sighs. "Hey what how did you know about the last one??" I frown. "Huh? What do you mean? You always flirt with Hailey. Even before you guys were even close. Even when you bullied her. Wow Jake. You have always liked Hailey, even if part of you didn't realise." Luke laughed.

"Maybe you should ask her on a date? Just try and see how she would feel about that. Don't rush into anything, you two have a long history that I believe if anything does happen, you need to take your time."

Ask her on a date

The next day at school, after I shoved my bag into my locker, I turned to head to class when I noticed a familiar teal haired girl walking down the hallway with a phone in her hand.

"HAILEYY!!" I screamed as I ran to hug her. "JAKE!" She friend happily, swinging her arms around my neck. This is why I loved our friendship so much—we were able to match each others energy and Hailey was able to contrast me when needed. This is why I was scared to do anything—to mess it up.

I could smell the sent of her shampoo as her neck rested near mine and I felt selfish for thinking of her like this. It was wrong to like her when she only saw me as a friend.

"You heading to class?" I asked as we pulled apart. "Mhm, well- I was but then I realised I left my pencil case at my locker so I was heading back to get it." She says.
