This is an alernate universe where Jake didn't bully Hailey when he first joined but instead they were academic rivals.

I totally forgot to mention this but this is HEAVILY based on the book 'I hope this doesn't find you' written by Ann Liang. The book is great and if you enjoyed this I 100% recommended reading it (it's my fav book :3)
I've also edited the uniform bc I left out some Info💀

Some key info for this is:
They met at school when they were 9
Haileys parents own a Music Store
They hate each others guts

Please also note that Haileys remarks about wanting to kill Jake are as a joke..for the most part anyways.

Hailey:

Jake Sterling.

My complete and utter enemy. He was my competition since the age of 9, when we were still learning simple things. Now finally have reached the doom of year 12, turning the infamous age: 18; he has remained almost the exact same but only more annoying and insufferable.

From academics, to sport, to popularity. Every single thing in my life has been a race. A competition. A tournament between who would come on top.

Even when it came time to vote for a school captain. Somehow in God knows how, me and Jake ended up with the exact same votes. Teachers counted multiple times and checked that all votes were valid but some how, we had scored the same. Unfortunately this meant I had a shared position as school captain with him but I tried to make my peace with it.

From knowing him for too long, there was simple basic facts I knew about him. He had orangey pinky hair that looked God awful. A very very dearly punchable face. An accent that made you want to jump. And a singing voice that was...okay.

I was good at many things, that I would like to admit anyways. I was good at singing, playing the guitar, running fast and long, getting good grades, making people around me like me, and most importantly I was better than Jake. Well at least I aimed to be.

Over the months, I had started a new scoreboard between me and Jake (in my head of course) 1 point for getting a higher grade, another point for winning a race or getting an award, 2 points for getting a teachers recognition and 3 for just doing something bigger and better than the other.

I had told no one about this and I kept it to my self. Currently the score was at 327 me and 325 for Jake. I was ahead by 2 points for when I managed to get the principle to greet me when passing then compliment me on my science model I made for an assignment. It had taken over 3 hours to make and was close to me wanting to smash my whole table, lock my self in a closet and cry.

Me and Jake were both asked to come along and help hand out booklets to parents with kids wanting to join the school. It was an event for new students joining the following year and would educate parents on how the school was run.

I had exactly 20 minutes and 17 seconds left until I had to leave the house. It was 7:02pm currently, which meant I would get in the car around 7:20pm, get driven to school and dropped off around 7:25pm, fix my self up in the bathroom to ensure I looked alright which would bring me to around 7:30pm, I could then mentally prepare until the doors opened for parents at 7:45pm. The event wouldn't start until 8pm and me getting there around 7:25pm may be a tiny bit early however I needed to make sure I was prepared.

I walked over to my mirror, adjusting my tie and blazer. I loved my uniform as much as I hated it, it made me look formal and put together but it also was extremely uncomfortable. Yes I looked formal and whatever but it also looked horrible on me, and didn't serve any justice.
