Hello, bookworms!
We had such a fantastic time chatting with the incredibly talented dreamylittlejennie, the author of Still Choosing You. In this interview, we dive into their creative process, their writing journey, and the story that made them fall in love with writing.
Before starting out questions let's get to know our author first.
Hello! I'm Jennie, 19 years old, from India, currently a second-year student. I recently began sharing my writing online. I actually started writing in 2023, but back then, I never posted any of my work anywhere.
Q1: Which scene or chapter was the hardest to write in your latest book?
A1: There are some chapters in which I had to portray the hardships my protagonist goes through… Those parts are yet to be published. It was truly challenging to convey the emotions and the character’s journey in a way that feels real and impactful. But in the end, I managed to do it, and it turned out even better than I had expected.
Q2: Which character do you secretly feel closest to and why?
A2: I feel closest to Adrian Vale, the male lead of my story. The way he relates to his parents, the way he copes with his emotions during his hardest, lowest moments… it kind of mirrors my own experience. His character isn’t exactly like me, but there are certain struggles and emotions he goes through that I deeply relate to, which makes me feel secretly connected to him.
Q3: Where do your story ideas usually come from?
A3: To be honest, they come naturally… almost randomly, out of nowhere. I tend to zone out a lot and get lost in my own imaginative world. There’s often a specific person on my mind, and my daydreaming mind creates its own imaginary scenarios—things that could never happen in real life. From those little “what ifs,” I usually end up building an entire story.
Q4: Do you pull from personal experience while writing or keep things purely fictional?
A4: Mostly purely fictional. But to make the story more engaging and relatable, I do tend to weave in small bits of personal experience. It helps give the plot a more natural, realistic flow and allows readers to connect with the emotions and situations on a deeper level.
Q5: What advice would you give to aspiring writers who feel stuck?
A5: I’m still a new writer myself, not that experienced yet… but my advice would be to hold on and give yourself some time. Feeling stuck and demotivated is completely normal—it happens to every creative mind. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is step back, take a break, and let your mind breathe. After some time, you’ll find the words flowing again. Just don’t give up. Trust me, it works for me.
Q6: If you could go back in time and tell your beginner-writer self one thing, what would it be?
A6: Since I’m still in the early stages of my writing journey—just a month in—I don’t have a message from the past yet. But I would say this: Do whatever makes you happy. If writing brings you joy, it’s never a waste of time. Never let anyone’s judgment stop you from expressing yourself. If it feels like you, then do it wholeheartedly. And no matter what, never give up.
Q7: What inspired you to start writing and what keeps you going even on tough days?
A7: It started with my love for reading and the authors whose books I’ve read—they opened up whole new worlds for me. But what truly keeps me going, even on tough days, is the passion and peace I find in writing my own story. Creating something from scratch, giving life to my thoughts… it brings me happiness like nothing else. That sense of fulfillment pushes me forward, no matter the obstacles.
Q8: If your main character could meet you, what would you say ?
A8: I would tell them that their strength amazes me—how they fight their battles even when the world weighs them down. I’d remind them that every scar, every tear, and every moment of doubt they've faced shapes the story they’re destined to write. They're braver than they know, and their journey doesn’t end here. Keep walking forward, because the best chapters are still unwritten.
Q9: Was there a particular scene in your book that was especially hard (or emotional) to write?
A9: Yes, there definitely is. Since it’s not published yet, I don’t want to spoil anything, so I can’t reveal the exact scene. But it’s the part where both of my leads face one of the most difficult periods of their lives. Describing every emotion, every struggle in that chapter was the hardest part of writing the story. Yet, despite the challenge, it turned out to be completely worth it.
Q10: Lastly what's the most important thing you learnt in your writing journey?
A10: First, I discovered that I can express my emotions much better on paper than I can verbally. I’m not always great at speaking my mind, but when it comes to writing, the words just flow. Second, it made me realize I actually have the potential to turn my imagination into something real—to create whole worlds and characters from my thoughts. Writing showed me how deeply I observe and think about everything around me, and in a way, it reflects who I am. It’s become a part of me.
