"Let the Moon's silver beams embrace the night."

White silk wraps around her dark body, speckled with stars as she gazes out at the moon. The surface of the lake shimmers, leaves encircle the surrounding willow trees at the edges of the water.
She steps in.
Four, eight, ten steps with the murky water pooling around her body. The water is freezing as it starts to lap around her feet, sending goosebumps racing along her calves, across her thighs. She feels as if sharp needles are grazing against her legs. Her heart is in her throat.
One step, another.
She is ready to fall.
She's walking faster now, pain pressing against the back of her eyelids. Her shirt soaks up the water and blood and tears. Freezing, illuminating, freeing. And then she's running, splashing, the cool surface of the water rippling at her touch. All at once, she loses the security of the smooth pebbles beneath her feet, and she falls.
She floats, ghostlike, on her back. There was nothing left to live for now that her love was gone. The water surrounding her body turns into stars. She gasps as the lake takes her body, drags her beneath the star-water. She feels her lungs burn and sees the white dot of the full moon in her blurry eyesight until the cold reaches down to her bones, tracing the jagged pieces of hurt that has piled up since the day she was born.
Opening up healing fractures once more.
She knows nothing but the rushing in her tears, the stinging at the corners of her eyes. Bubbles rising, spiralling, from her lips, from her nose, as all the air in her lungs trickles away from her. Her dark hair spilling away from her shoulders, tangling and wild.
Perhaps she cries, until the lake was a galaxy of sadness. Perhaps she sinks, and lets the lake take her far away. Perhaps she screams, the waves turning into a tsunami that destroys the willow trees and the crickets at the shore.
There is no one to hear her as she closes her eyes, the moon swallowing her soul.
