"Romeo..." I started, but stopped. I didn't mean to piss him off. I really didn't.
"What?" He asked, not harsh, but impatient. Like he knew I wanted to say something, and he didn't have the energy to entertain it.
I shook my head. "Never mind."
He sighed. "What, Zhané?"
"Nothing." I whispered. "Just... be careful."
"We gon' talk about this baby shit later." He said, voice laced with attitude.
And just like that, he turned and walked towards the door. I didn't even realize I'd been holding my breath until the door clicked shut behind him. The silence he left behind pressed heavily against the walls. I sank into the couch, staring at the spot where he was. Truthfully, I wanted to fucking cry.
I rubbed my face and stood up, dragging myself to the stairs so that I could just get into my bed. I'd barely reached the top of the stairs when my phone buzzed in my hand. Naria's name flashed across, which surprised me. It was too late for her to be calling, and nothing was wrong.
I answered quickly. "Hey, girl. What's wrong?"
Her voice came through high and shaky. "Zhané, I don't know what to do or what the fuck is going on. Nasir's trippin' right now. Like... I've never seen him like this."
I frowned, walking into my room. "Trippin' how? What happened?"
"He came into the house, and he was just so upset. He thinks Romeo has been lying about some stuff and that he's a danger to us. I don't even know. He's so pissed off. He left some hours ago."
The panic in her voice made my stomach twist. "Okay, Naria, breathe. Did he say where he was going?"
"He's going there. To LA. I mentioned our classes, and he said he doesn't care about that. We're literally about to graduate soon. He's so stupid." She said, getting annoyed.
This is too much Caine drama tonight.
"Why is he coming here?"
"I don't even know. I'm really scared, Zhané. I'm scared he's about to do something he can't take back."

🥀 Omniscient.
Stacks of boxes lined the basement walls, each taped tight and marked with numbers only Romeo's crew could read. Meech dragged another duffel bag across the concrete floor, his sneakers screeching as he pulled it to the side. Corbin stood near the doorway, phone in hand, as he checked off everything that needed to be moved. He wasn't used to this, to doing the illegal things, but he found excitement in it. For him, it was a thrill to be next to someone as dangerous as Romeo. He wasn't just the boring man.
