Sereen piped up, a little skeptical, "If we end up not liking this school, can we just go back to homeschooling?"
Their mom laughed softly, "We'll see. But I have a feeling you two will surprise yourselves."
Their new friends couldn't wait to have them at school. The excitement was real and contagious.
But their mom? She wasn't as thrilled. The quiet house already felt too empty, and the thought of being alone again made her chest tighten.
"Well, I love you both. Have a great day at school." She gives them each a gentle kiss on the forehead.
"Bye, Mom!" they said in unison as they headed out the door.
Right then, Garroth was about to pass by when he heard their door shut. He stopped, turned around, and greeted Madison and then Sereen.
"Hey, Garroth!" Madison called, running over with Sereen following close behind, shutting the door behind her.
"Hi" Sereen said, her tone unamused. "Do you know if Laurance is already at school yet?"
"Nah, I don't know, why don't you shoot him a text? He'll probably respond quick enough." he said, shrugging.
"Yeah.. Alright" Sereen said, pulling her phone out of the pocket of her skirt.
She stared down at the screen, scrolling through her contacts until she found Laurance. Once she did, she tapped his name and sent a quick message:
7:15am
r u at school already?
7:16am
What eager to see me? but nah not yet, I only live a few blocks away so I'm just heading out now. 😋
7:16am
i was just asking.
not that deep.
see you there🤨.
7:16am
You sure you're not a little excited to see me?
Seen
"Soooo, what did he say, Sereen?" Madison asked, glancing to her right where Sereen was standing.
"Nothing much. Just, you know... joking around," Sereen said, coyly looking ahead and avoiding eye contact with her sister beside her.
"Laurance always jokes. Bet he was being annoying," Garroth chimed in, flashing a sly smirk at Madison.
Heading up the road, we saw a few other students wearing the same uniform as us. Garroth called out to them, hoping they'd wait up. One of them was the girl from the other day, Aphmau. Laurence was right next to her.
Garroth raised a hand. "Yo! Aph! Laurance!"
"Look who finally decided to show up," Laurence said with a teasing grin. "I was starting to think you two were gonna get lost before you even made it to the gate."
They all began walking together, some trailing a few steps behind but still keeping pace with the group, the conversation flowing easily between them.
"Lost? Please," Garroth said, smirking. "With me around, that's not even possible. You'd have to blindfold me and spin me around a hundred times before I'd lose my way."
Aphmau laughed. "He's not wrong. Garroth's like a walking GPS... outside, at least."
"Yeah," Laurence added, laughing at Aphmau's comment. "But inside the school? You two might actually need him. That place is a maze."
