– “He said your name.”

It was still echoing in his head.

Don’t catch a cold, Jaeyun.

Jake replayed it again that morning as he walked into class, hoodie sleeves too long, hair still a little mussed from sleep. He had a feeling he’d dreamed about Sunghoon saying his name, too.

Sunghoon. Saying “Jaeyun.”
Soft. Careful. Like it meant something.

He wasn’t sure how to act today.

“Yah,” Jay said as soon as Jake sat down, “you’re glowing.”

Jake blinked. “What?”

Heeseung leaned over Jay’s desk, chin propped in his hand. “Don’t play dumb, sunshine. You came back with sweater paws and a pink face. What happened?”

“Nothing!” Jake said, voice too high. “He just… walked me home.”

Jay smirked. “And?”

Jake looked down. “…He said my name.”

Jay stared at him for a second.

Then stood up.

“CLASS,” he announced, “I WOULD LIKE TO FORMALLY DECLARE THAT PARK SUNGHOON SAID JAEYUN’S NAME LAST NIGHT.”

Jake slapped a hand over his mouth. “Jay, oh my god—”

“SHUT UP, I’M CELEBRATING.”

Heeseung cackled so hard he almost fell out of his chair. “Dude. You’re worse than the music club.”

Sunghoon walked in exactly then.

Jake flinched like he’d been caught red-handed. Sunghoon paused near the door, eyes scanning over the scene: Jake’s red face, Jay’s smug stance, Heeseung wiping tears from his eyes.

“…What,” Sunghoon asked flatly, “did I miss?”

“Nothing!” Jake blurted.

Jay was grinning. “Jake was just telling us about how romantic your walk was.”

“I didn’t—!”

Sunghoon, expression unreadable, crossed the room and sat in his usual seat. He set down his bag. Opened his book. Didn’t look up.

“I just walked him home.”

Jake deflated slightly.

Jay didn’t miss it. Neither did Heeseung.

The bell rang before anyone could say more.

By lunch, the air was still weird.

Not bad. Not awkward. Just… charged.

Jake sat between Heeseung and Jay on the rooftop, quietly nibbling at his sandwich. He was warm today—his aunt had given him an extra vitamin shot that morning—but his thoughts were loud.

Across from him, Sunghoon was quiet too.

He always was, but this was the kind of quiet Jake was starting to recognize.

Not bored quiet. Thinking quiet.

Jay, trying to break the silence, tossed a grape into the air and caught it in his mouth. “You know what we need?” he said around it. “A field trip.”
