—The city was loud. But someone was louder in his head.
It started with a wrong turn.
Jake had been in Seoul for, what, four days? That was enough to memorize the bus routes, right? Wrong.
Very wrong.
The sun had already dipped beneath the skyline, leaving everything bathed in a pale gold haze when Jake realized he had absolutely no idea where he was. The streets were crowded, neon signs buzzing above, couples laughing as they passed, and his phone had decided that this was the perfect moment to hit 2%.
He stood on the edge of the sidewalk, thumb hovering over the Maps app, lips pressed together.
That’s when a voice startled him from behind.
“You’re not used to Seoul, are you?”
Jake turned.
Park Sunghoon.
Still in uniform, jacket buttoned this time, hands in his pockets like he had nothing better to do than stand there looking... well, exactly how someone in a teen drama would look during the first big turning point.
Jake blinked. “Uh—how did you…”
“You left your scarf on the bench,” Sunghoon said simply. “Jay made a scene about it, so I offered to drop it off.”
Jake blinked again. “You came all the way to give me my scarf?”
Sunghoon shrugged. “He was being loud.”
Jake smiled, warmth blooming in his chest despite the cold air. “You didn’t have to.”
“I know.”
There was a pause. The city buzzed around them. Jake watched a couple cross the street, fingers intertwined.
Sunghoon watched Jake.
“You look like you’re about to cry,” he said, a little too bluntly.
Jake’s head snapped up. “What?”
“Your face. You’re doing that thing with your eyebrows.”
Jake reached up instinctively. “I—I’m not gonna cry, I just—”
“Lost?”
“…Yeah.”
Sunghoon nodded like that made perfect sense. Then he stepped closer, pulled the scarf from his pocket, and wrapped it gently around Jake’s neck. Not too tight. Not too loose. Like he’d done it a hundred times before.
Jake’s heart stuttered.
“You live in Gangseo, right?” Sunghoon said.
Jake nodded.
“Come on. I’ll walk you to the right bus stop.”
Jake blinked. “You don’t have to—”
“I know,” Sunghoon cut in, and then, with the faintest trace of a smirk, added:
“You say ‘thanks’ too much.”
Jake laughed. “Is that your way of saying ‘you’re welcome’?”
Sunghoon looked away, just for a second. His ears were pink.
They walked in quiet, but not uncomfortable silence. Jake kept glancing around, taking in the lights and people, the way the city seemed to stretch forever.
“You’re really not used to it, huh?” Sunghoon asked again, this time softer.
Jake shook his head. “Sydney’s loud, but it’s… different. I don’t know how to explain it.”
“You don’t have to.”
Jake smiled at that.
They reached the right bus stop eventually. Jake turned to him, still wrapped in the scarf, still a little windblown.
“Are you always like this?”
Sunghoon raised an eyebrow. “Like what?”
Jake tilted his head. “You don’t talk much. But when you do, it’s… you’re nice.”
Sunghoon looked like he was about to reply, but then the bus pulled up, and Jake took a small step back.
“See you tomorrow?”
Sunghoon nodded. “Yeah.”
Jake hesitated. Then: “Thanks.”
Sunghoon exhaled. A laugh. Barely there.
“You’re hopeless.”
Jake stepped onto the bus, heart thudding in a way that had nothing to do with the cold.
He turned to wave once before the doors closed.
Sunghoon was still standing there.
Still watching.
That night, the group chat exploded.
Jay: GUYS HE WALKED HIM HOME
Heeseung: I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I KNEW IT
Jay: Bro Sunghoon wrapped a SCARF. Like wrapped. Like *boyfriend move* wrapped.
Heeseung: We need to take a photo of him blushing next time
Jay: I’m calling it now. Park Sunghoon is DONE for.💀
Sunghoon has left the chat.
Jay: HE RAN.
