— It Wasn’t a Date. (It Was.)

“Movie night?”
Jay said it like it was obvious. Like this had been the plan all along.

They were back in class the next morning—gray skies still clinging to the windows, the air smelling like wet notebooks and the leftover ramen Jake still swore he could smell on Jay’s hoodie.

Heeseung stretched out his legs under the desk. “At your place?”

Jay shook his head. “Mum kicked me out for the weekend. She’s hosting a book club. With wine. And loud middle-aged women who think I’m still twelve.”

Heeseung looked horrified. “Run.”

Jay pointed at Sunghoon. “We’re invading your house.”

Sunghoon didn’t blink. “No.”

Jake looked up from his math notes. “Wait—movie night?”

Jay beamed. “Yes, baby Aussie. It’s mandatory. Bring snacks. And prepare to cry, because I’m picking the saddest film I can find.”

“Let him breathe,” Heeseung said. “He’s still recovering from the ramen ambush.”

Jake smiled sheepishly. “I’ve never done a group movie night before.”

That made Jay freeze. “Wait. Never?”

Jake shrugged. “I mean… I had a few friends in Sydney. But I got sick a lot. Missed school, missed hangouts.”

There was a small silence.

Then Sunghoon spoke. “My house is fine.”

Everyone turned to stare.

Even Jake.

“…Really?” he asked.

Sunghoon just nodded, eyes back on his notebook.

Jay clapped once. “YES. Operation Sleepover begins!”

“It’s not a sleepover,” Sunghoon muttered.

“It is now.”

The plan was simple. Friday after school. Snacks, soda, movies.

Jake texted his aunt just to make sure she didn’t panic.

> Going to Sunghoon’s house after school. He’s in my class. I’ll be home before 10.

> Take your vitamins. Drink water. Tell him thank you for not letting you wander off again.

> 🥲 I will.

Sunghoon’s house was quiet. Clean. Minimalist, with too many trophies on too many shelves.

His mom wasn’t home, but a note on the fridge said: “There’s kimchi stew in the pot. Please don’t blow up the kitchen.”

Jay had immediately tried to open every drawer in the living room.

Heeseung had found the TV remote and made himself at home.

Jake just stood in the entryway, slightly stunned.

“This is… big.”

Sunghoon shrugged, kicking off his shoes. “It’s just a house.”
