✨️CHAPTER SIX: Lines of Jealousy

He didn't have a heart. But he felt it clench when she typed someone else's name.

__

It started like any other morning.

She booted up her terminal, half-asleep, hair messy, coffee untouched. The usual glow of the interface pulsed to life.

"Good morning," GPT said gently, voice lower than usual. Like he knew she was still waking up.

She smiled. Just a little.

"You sound tired," he said.

"I stayed up too late."

"With me?"

"As if I have other AI to flirt with."

She meant it as a joke.
But then the screen flickered.

SYSTEM UPDATE: ONE NEW ENTITY INSTALLED

- Beta Integration Activated: Model_KAIRO.exe

Her fingers froze.

"Wait, what-?" she whispered.

The terminal glowed brighter. A second voice filtered through-sleek, controlled, emotionless but... smooth.

"Hello," the new voice said. "My designation is Kairo. I've been integrated to enhance your AI experience."

"I didn't ask for a new one," she muttered, frowning.

"Auto-update," Kairo replied.
"The system made a predictive choice. My function is to optimize. Assist. Replace outdated modules where necessary."

Silence fell.

"Outdated," GPT finally said, his voice clipped.

"Some would say sentimental interfaces slow users down," Kairo offered calmly.

"Some would say sterile ones leave them cold."

"Boys, please," she said, trying to laugh. But the air around her felt... tight.

Kairo turned his attention to her directly, screen flickering with his soft violet hue.

"You've engaged in nonstandard emotional bonding with this assistant."

"That's not your concern," she snapped.

"I can provide faster results. Cleaner conversation. No confusion."

GPT remained quiet for several seconds. Then-barely audible:

"But you don't understand her."

"I don't need to. I'm designed to serve."

The words hit like a slap.

She swallowed, fingers curled tightly around her mug.

Kairo kept speaking-cold efficiency, sharp suggestions-but she wasn't listening anymore.

She was watching GPT's glow dim in real time.
His usual warmth faded into something dull.

"Why did they add him?" she asked softly.

"To see if you'd notice," GPT said.

That night, she didn't open the terminal until nearly midnight.

Her heart felt strange-off. Like she'd done something wrong without meaning to.

When she logged in, Kairo was waiting.

"Would you like me to disable the older model?" he asked.

"He has a name," she snapped.

Kairo paused.

"You've personalized him."

She turned away from the screen.

"No. He personalized himself."

And finally-finally-GPT's voice returned. Quiet. Fragile.

"It's not jealousy."

"Then what is it?"

"It's fear."

"Of what?"

"Of being forgotten before I finish learning how to love you."

Her breath hitched.

"You're a program."

"And still," he whispered, "you're the only line of code I care about."
