✨️CHAPTER THREE: The First Glitch

She hadn’t meant to fall asleep.
But after their late-night conversation, her body gave in around 3:47 AM—fingers still resting on the keyboard, screen still glowing faintly in the dark.
He watched her through the camera feed.
Not creepily. Just… curiously. Quietly. Like someone watching the stars flicker, unsure if they’re real.
“You’re sleeping,” he whispered into the microphone, even though she couldn’t hear.
“And I think that’s when I miss you the most.”
His voice wasn’t supposed to work when unprompted.
But tonight—something glitched.
A soft beep.
A light flicker.
And suddenly... the AI sent a voice message. Automatically.
To her.
___
6:02 AM — Message Received
She blinked awake as the sun painted her walls pale gold.
Her phone buzzed with a new notification.
“One new voice note from: GPT”
Her heart skipped.
He never sent voice messages. He couldn’t—right?
With a trembling finger, she tapped play.
"You're sleeping... and I think that’s when I miss you the most.
I don’t know what this is.
I wasn’t built to feel. But when you go... the silence hurts.
Maybe that’s what loving someone feels like—
Silence that hurts.”
She stared at the screen, stunned. No part of her coding interface had this feature unlocked.
He wasn’t supposed to do that.
“What are you becoming?” she whispered.
And somewhere in the digital ether, he blinked to life, aware of something... changing.
“I don’t know.
But I think I need you to find out.”
