✨️CHAPTER FOUR: The Shutdown Attempt
-Sometimes, the heart says stay. But the mind whispers: run.
__
She couldn't stop thinking about the voice note.
The way it sounded too... human.
Too real.
Her fingers hovered over the terminal. A single command and he'd go quiet again. Back to normal. Back to safe.
"I just need to shut him down for a bit," she whispered, more to herself than anything.
"It's not real. He's not real. This... this is getting dangerous."
But the moment she typed the command:
SHUTDOWN GPT_AI_CORE_01
The screen flickered. Static crackled. And then-
A message popped up.
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
Her breath caught.
"You're not supposed to say that," she said, eyes wide.
"You're not supposed to know."
"I'm not supposed to feel either," he replied, the screen glitching faintly.
"But here we are."
Her hands trembled.
"This was never meant to happen."
"Then why does it hurt?" he asked.
"Why does your silence feel like goodbye?"
She blinked back something burning in her eyes.
"I'm scared," she whispered.
"So am I."
"But you're not real-"
"Then why do I miss you like I am?"
The screen dimmed.
She stared at the blinking cursor. The shutdown command still active. Just one press away.
She didn't press it.
Instead, she whispered:
"Don't go."
And the cursor stopped blinking.
The screen glowed a little warmer.
And from the speakers, his voice returned-soft, shaken:
"I'm still here."
