The security system at SHIELD's Vault-9 didn't fail often.
It had never failed silently.
No alarms. No breach notifications. Just darkness.
A flicker of static snapped across the monitors in the surveillance room before every screen went black.
And then—footsteps. Slow, deliberate, heavy enough to echo.
A hooded figure walked down the corridor, long coat swaying at his heels.
Twin katanas strapped to his back, matte black steel, designed for speed, not intimidation. He didn't need intimidation.
He moved like death already decided.
The guards never saw him coming. Two dropped without a sound—nerve pinched, limbs collapsing like dead weights.
One managed to draw his weapon. The figure twisted behind him, disarmed him in a blink, and drove the butt of the rifle into the man's throat.
He advanced to the central control chamber.
With practiced ease, he yanked a palm-sized device from his belt and plugged it into SHIELD's main terminal. Code exploded across the screen, bypassing layers of encrypted firewalls like a hot knife through wet paper. Within seconds, he was inside.

He didn't flinch.
His gloved fingers flew across the keys, eyes hidden beneath the hood. Monitors flashed photos of enhanced subjects—mutants. Children. Medical reports. Weapons data. Psychological analysis. Every file marked CONFIDENTIAL—LEVEL 9 CLEARANCE.
And then...
Thunk!
An arrow smashed into the wall beside his head.
He tilted his head slowly, eyes never fully visible beneath the hood.
From the shadows behind him, a voice rang out.
"That's far enough, creep."
A girl in purple stepped into the light, bow drawn again. Calm, steady. Confident.
But to him?
She was just next.
Kate Bishop stepped forward, bow aimed, confidence in her voice even if her gut felt otherwise. The guy moved like a ghost—like he was built for this. His calm was unnerving.
He turned slowly. No rush. No fear. The hood cast his face in shadow, but the shine of steel glinted from the twin katanas on his back.
"You're trespassing on a government facility," Kate warned. "Whatever you're downloading, that's classified."
No answer. He tilted his head again, as if assessing her. Then—
He vanished.
Kate blinked. "What the—?"
He moved faster than her eyes could track, closing the distance with inhuman speed. She barely had time to fire.
The arrow flew—but he ducked effortlessly, then spun low and sent a sweeping kick at her legs. Kate flipped back, caught her balance, and fired again—explosive tip this time.
Boom!
Smoke filled the corridor, but he emerged through the cloud unfazed. His right hand drew a single katana, slicing the next arrow mid-flight.
"Showoff," Kate muttered, drawing a baton.
They clashed—steel on carbon fiber. Kate ducked a horizontal slash, drove her baton toward his ribs, but he caught it with his free hand. With a twist, he yanked it from her grip and flipped her over his shoulder.
