Regardless, I pushed on with my experiments.

An interesting thing happened during the two weeks that had passed.

One of the demons I'd collected for experiments had developed a bit of a loyalty to me. It started when I was doing one of experiments on a demon on my table.

I went to reach for my scalpel, but couldn't find it. As I looked around for it, one of the demons extended one of its arms, my scalpel in hand and handed it to me.

I feel like I don't need to explain why this was weird. A demon is effectively helping me do experiments on another demon.

It would seem that demons don't share a love for eachother, unlike humans.

Regardless, this was too interesting an opportunity to pass out.

I looked for ways to train it.

After all demons are very different from dogs, or any animal that could be made in to pet.

Are demons even animals in the first place?

It seemed to understand human language somewhat. And it does crave for meat. So every time it helps me, I would feed it some fresh meat I bought from the supermarket, as well as praise it.

I then did the risky thing of letting it out of its cage, and leaving it unsupervised for an extended period of time. Surprisingly, it did nothing to try and escape.

I had installed a small camera facing the cages. When I saw it fight off a demon that tried to escape its cage, I knew it had accepted me as its master.

For now I'll call it The Loyal One.

My theory as to why this happened?

I think despite a lack of general intelligence, demons still had logic and a will to live. It seems that it saw me tormenting and killing other demons, and thought that being loyal to me will ensure its safety.

Well, it's definitely not a wrong train of thought.

Now that I'm used to general kurota usage, I need to figure out what kind of power I'm dealing with here, as well as check its "omnipotence" as it were. And to do that, I intentionally went to work the next day, straight after my exercise, leaving me without my car.

People of course asked me why I had came without my, and simply shrugged them off, and said that I'd wanted to try coming here on foot, and they immediately laughed it off, and attributed it to my "Genius whims" whatever that means.

During work, Sakura came up to me, and I felt every nurse, doctor, and staff shift their gazes towards me. And then, she started asking about me.

"Hey, uh, Noa...-san?" She said nervously, as if we hadn't been friends since college. "Have you...changed recently?"

To which I replied: "Hmm? In what way specifically?"

Sakura, as if trying not to step on a landmine: "Well, y'know, your...face? It'd kinda...changed. B-but not in a bad mind you. Y-you also seem taller, and are you wearing contacts?..." She eventually devolved to gibberish.

I gently placed my hand on her shoulder, and put on my soft nothing's wrong smile. "Hmm, it's probably just your imagination"

Sakura jumped and blushed slightly.

I made my way to my laboratory, and began my work as usual.

A few hours passed.

The door suddenly burst open.

"Hoshigami-sensei!"

It was a child. A boy. Probably seven to eight years old. He had a massive wound on his abdomen, shaped like a cone. He's bleeding profusely. The others tried to stop the bleeding while wheeling him to the operating room.
