I wasn't used to it.
My real family loved me like any family should, but I'm pretty sure I needed to have a stab-wound or something before my mom would be convinced I couldn't go to school.
My explanation seemed to satisfy my "parents" though, and she only gave me one more concerned look before plopping down a plate of delicious breakfast and a cup of coffee.
Hallelujah, the food is here! Fake-family is seriously getting on my good list here with all this pampering. Except you, Peeta. Take a hike.
The rest of breakfast was spent in silence, only the sound of crinkling newspaper and scraping of forks occupying the room. It wasn't an awkward silence though, and that was nice. It gave me a few moments to collect myself, and I was finally able to come up with a theory on why my artificial-brother looked like a certain A-lister. Most Wattpad books "cast" characters, right? And seeing as I had already realized it was, in fact, a Wattpad novel, it would only make sense this book would have a cast of characters as well, right? Seeing that I didn't recognize anybody else in the family as a celebrity, I could only guess they must have been selected as lesser-known actors.
Ugh, this is making my head hurt.
Although I'd roughly figured things out until this point, I still had no idea what this day was going to entail. And whho knew when the plot would start and Skylar would have some Alpha Werewolf barking orders at her and screaming, 'Mine' all the time? Whatever the case, there was one cliche I was actually glad for: Fake-Dad being Alpha of the pack.
Hopefully that meant people wouldn't take advantage of the little human in the wolf den - AKA me - and maybe, just maybe, that meant I could grab some random pack member and insist he carry me around all day. I mean, who's going to deny the Alpha's daughter, right? Or should I say, "daughter"?
Hey, don't judge. I think I've earned taking-advantage privileges the moment I woke up in a fictional book with some fictional life. Also, my feet get tired.
"Alright, my little rays of sunshine, you better get going to school before you're late," Pretend-Mom spoke up as Skylar, Brother-Whose-Name-I-Have-Yet-To-Learn, and I piled our plates into the sink.
She was quick to give us all bone-crushing hugs, and even tear up a little as we gathered all our stuff together. Skylar had apparently brought down my backpack already so I was already prepared.
Fake-twin is seriously turning out to be my favorite person so far. I'm not sure how fond of her I was at first, but she's definitely grown on me.
"Jackson, sweetpea, why don't you tuck in your shirt? It sends the right message and you are future Alpha, you know," Artifical-Mom suggested to Jackson as he shoved a stack of papers into his backpack haphazardly, "I honestly still can't believe my little baby boy is a senior in high school. When you turn eighteen, you're going to take over the pack and be all grown up! And at seventeen, you could find your mate at any minute!" Pretend-Mom looked like she was holding back tears, but I was fist-pumping mentally.
In that sentence, she had cleared up that his name was Jackson, he was older and you could find your mate when you shifted. I hadn't been entirely sure on that, seeing as a lot of werewolf novels were iffy on that, but it was nice to know. And since Little Miss-Rare-White-Wolf had shifted a few months ago, that also meant she was bound to find her mate and start this corny-storyline at any point, as well.
Fake-Dad reached over to comfort his mate, and I had to hold back a smile at how cute they looked as he whispered in her ear and made her giggle. I definitely didn't want some possessive horny werewolf on my tail on the time, but that didn't mean I couldn't admire the whole mate thing as a bystander, either.
