ANXIETY was a bitch, and one I had been dealing with for years.

Spinning around on my desk chair, I turned my phone off, blowing out a tired sigh with the room spinning around me.

Rian was supposed to get here an hour ago, but he never showed up, and he hadn't answered any of my texts. I even called him twice, honestly, just worried.

He promised he was coming over.

He kept his promises, right?

Putting my socked feet on the ground, I stopped spinning and tossed my phone on my desk, trying not to overthink.

But that wasn't possible.

I knew his Mam had miscarried, and I couldn't imagine what she was going through, but I could imagine what Rian was going through.

No doubt, his head would be a mess.

That would explain why he hadn't shown up.

Maybe his Mam needed him?

I shouldn't feel upset.

It wasn't right for me to be upset about him being late when he was going through something so upsetting.

I just wanted to be there for him—to support him.

Then again, maybe he just preferred supporting himself.

Maybe he didn't want my support.

Yeah, he probably just wanted to be around his family.

When I stood up, planning to throw myself into bed, a knock sounded at my door moments before it slowly opened, and my Mam greeted me with a tired smile. "I thought you might still be up, pet," she softly said.

Throwing myself on my bed, I face-planted my pillows. "Yeah, I, uh, was doing homework," I lied because there was no way in hell I was about to tell her that I was staying up for a boy she hadn't met before.

A boy who had enough tattoos to give her a heart attack.

"Well, I hope you finished," she hummed as I heard my door open more. "I'm heading to bed, honey, but make sure you two don't stay up too late. It's a school day tomorrow."

Wait a second—

You two?

Two?

Fuck off.

Did Rian show up at my front door?

With my heart pounding from both excitement and nervousness, I quickly rolled over and sat up on my elbows with a beaming smile, expecting to lock eyes with steel blue ones.

But I didn't.

Instead, my eyes locked with dark blue ones, making my heart fucking plummet to hell.

"Don't worry, Sadhbh," Eiden fucking Wilkinson politely started, shoving car keys into the pocket of his jeans as he sent her a smile and stepped into my room. "I'm pretty tired and I have no doubt Lils is from doing homework. We'll be heading to be soon."
