Chapter 3-Grace

I woke up feeling disoriented and groggy.  I rubbed my eyes away from sleep and opened them, only to find myself in a place that I did not recognize or had any sort of recollection of how I’d gotten there.  There was nothing familiar about where I was, except that there was that same unearthly radiating light surrounding the room.  The light was nothing that I had ever seen before.  There was nothing that I could compare it to.  You wouldn’t believe me if I even tried.  I was awed by the beauty of its essence and couldn’t fully understand where I was.

I was completely awestricken by my surrounding and a moment later was when a girl walked in through a door and I was utterly mesmerized.  She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my life.  She had long, flowing golden-brown hair that made her unearthly just like the radiant light that surrounded the room.  She was tall and slender but I noticed that she wasn’t taller than me.  She wore a dress that graced the floor.  It hugged her body in all the right places, making her curves noticeable.  Her eyes were the deepest green that I had ever seen like moss on a tree, free and riveting.  Those deep green eyes reminded me of the lush apple blossom trees in Amsterdam.

“Alexander.”  She said.  Her voice was soft and melodic.  “I am so glad that you are awake and well.”

All I could muster was a nod.  My mouth felt dry and I didn’t have the courage to speak.  I was afraid of my voice committing treachery.  She waved her hand out and gestured for me to come closer and I did, choosing my steps very carefully.  I was slightly cautious.  She may have been the most beautiful creature that I had even laid eyes on but that did not mean that she could be trusted.

Once I was a few feet away, she came forward and closed the gap between us.  She laid her hands on both sides of my shoulders and spoke.  “Dear Alexander, do you know why you’re here?”  She looked at me intently with those vibrant green eyes.

I shook my head. “No.”  Surprisingly, my voice came out even.

She waved her hand and a bundle of pillows and blankets appeared around us.  “Please, sit.  I’m guessing you will need it once you hear what I have to say.”

My mouth fell open in astonishment.  I didn’t understand how she could make something appear out of thin air.  “How did you do that?”

“I’ll explain later.”  She said, waving away my question.  “Please sit, Alexander.” She said as she lowered herself and sat on the heap of fabric.

I sighed and took a seat next to her, seeing that there was no room for protest.  “Where am I?”  I asked.  That would be the first obvious question any person would ask but what she said wasn’t what I was expecting.

“You aren’t asking the right question.”

I was confused.  “I don’t understand.”  I rubbed the back of my head in forethought.  I took a chance and asked, “How did I get here?”

She looked up at me then.  She had a small sad smile on her lips.  Her eyes were down cast as if answering me would be too grave.  Finally she said, “You died.”
