Chapter 4-Second Chance

I guess you can say that from that moment on my life completely changed.

I had the same reaction as you are having.  I was in disbelief.  Eliza couldn’t possibly be an angel like she said she would.  That would have to mean that I was dead.  That was half true as Eliza explained to me what was happening to me.

“I was sent to guide your soul back here.  You see our Father has plans for you.  Those plans are only revealed to you and you alone.  I’m just here as a” She bit her lip.  “Friend.”

“This can’t be possible!  I mean this is heaven?  You’re an angel?  And what does that make me?  What do you mean plan?  This is some kind of cruel joke.”

She shook her head.  “No, Alexander.”  Her voice was like a sweet melody.  It was soft and I noticed that it soothed me.  “I am.  If you’ll just open up your heart and trust in my word.  You’re an angel.  Well, you’re actually a guardian angel.”  She smiled.

I stood up and began to pace the room.  I tried to think of other possible solutions for my predicament.  I was absolutely positive that Eliza was crazy and that she just wanted me here with her as a companion.  That made the most sense to me.  Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to come up with some sort of logical explanation, I couldn’t.  Deep down I knew that what Eliza said was true.  I was in heaven and I was transitioning into a guardian angel.  I couldn’t deny the unearthly glow that radiated the room.  I couldn’t ignore the unearthly beauty and grace that emanated and was Eliza.

Everything was just too much to handle.  I was overwhelmed by everything around me and bitterly laughed at how contradicting that statement was.  I was in heaven and I was overwhelmed.  Isn’t heaven supposed to be peaceful?  It is but finding out that you are dead and going to be a guardian angel...well that fact takes a toll on the person’s body and mind.

I walked over to where Eliza remained seat and sank down in the heap of fabric.  I put my head in my hands, and started to silently sob.  My shoulders shock from the effort and I felt Eliza’s gentle hands run through my hair.  The simple action reminded me of my mother and it hurt to even think about it.  I wondered if I’d ever see my family again.  I wondered if I could somehow watch over them and protect them from Hitler.  I then remembered that they were safely in America and my worry dissolved the next moment.

Slowly, I started to accept what I had been given.  I was given a second chance to live even if it did mean I was part of the supernatural world.  I was going to make my second chance as fulfilling as I could make it.  God had a reason to have chosen me, whatever that reason was I trusted and believed in him.  There was always a reason for everything.  “I’m ready.”  I told Eliza.  “What do I have to do?”

She cupped my face with her hand.  Her touch was gentle and soothing.  “Oh, Alexander.  You don’t have to do anything.  Just accept what has been given to you.  Then you will begin on your first assignment.”

I nodded my head.  “I accept what has been given to me.  I accept the second chance that God has given me.”  I gave her a small smile and Eliza smiled back in return.  “I’m ready to begin.”
