I've been told a lot of things growing up.
And the main one?
Protect your heart.
Because the first person you give it to, will either keep you safe or they'll be the first person to break it.
I just wish..
I listened.
Because I was the one who had to feel that heartbreak first hand.
But that's my fault.
For falling in love with someone like him.

"Mickey are you awake?"

I laid in my bed, soft green eyes looking back into my dark blue ones.
Since childhood, I've had this close relationship with my cousin's, but the one I would choose over the rest?
Was Ryan.

He laid there, watching me with his expression full of amusement.
"Are you going to keep ignoring her? You know how Lolly gets." The blond haired vampire pointed out.
I looked away from him.
"I.. I'm not ready for sophomore year." I told Ryan who blinked laying there.
"Why not?" He grinned softly at me.
I frowned softly.
"What if you make friends and forget about me?" I questioned.
Ryan stared before pinching my cheek.
"O-Ow!" I cried looking at him with knitted brows.
"Why would you do that?" I asked him.

"Well, why would you ask that?" Ryan sat up looking at me.
My face was warm as the tears began burning my eyes.
"Because.. i-it's high school, Ryan and-"
"And you and I are cousins, we're best friends. Also, how could I ever forget someone so adorably dependent on me?" Ryan teased as my face grew hot.

"Alright, what's the hold up?" The bedroom door came open and there stood my father, Devi Porter, his arms crossed as my younger brother, Onyx hid behind the demon's leg.

"O-Oh, sorry father, I'm getting dressed now." I said getting out of the bed as Ryan followed behind.
"See you in a bit Mick-"

"Hold it." My father cut Ryan off who paused at the window, the teen grinned at the adult.
"Does your dad know you're here?" My father questioned as Ryan blinked before rubbing the side of his neck.
"You guys know how we are-"
"That's not answering my question." My father smirked at Ryan who grinned at him.
"It's possible he doesn't know I'm here." Ryan shrugged.
My father smiled at him.
"Well as your uncle? I suggest you call one of your parents before I beat that ass myself." His eyes fell on me.

"Get dressed, your dad made breakfast and it's getting cold." He said stepping out of the bedroom.

I turned to Ryan who let out a nervous laugh.
"He was joking right? You know, about beating ass?" He questioned.
I stared before looking away.
"Mickey, he was joking right?" Ryan repeated.
I looked to him as I grabbed my clothes.
"Call uncle Jinx." I told him.

"Well I see why you were late for breakfast, good morning Ryan." My dad greeted Ryan who grinned before sitting down across from my brother, Casper who looked at the other slightly annoyed.

"That's my fault completely, good morning uncle Cerberus." Ryan greeted the other demon who sighed softly.
"You know your parents are already stressed with your little sister, if you're going to come visit, at least respect them enough to tell them. I know you were raised better than that, all of you were." My dad told him.
Ryan looked at him.
"I respect my parents-"

"Sneaking out for morning cuddles with my son is not respecting your parents." My father cut in which made the two of us blush.

"Honestly, you two should be more careful with that affection you share as cousins, I understand you're best friends but what happens when either of you find a mate? I don't think they'll like knowing you two are that close." My dad added.
I continued blushing sitting there.
"B-But-"

"There is no but to that." My father chuckled.
"You kids are sixteen years old, trust me when I say this. The moment you find that one person you think will be your mate? The two of you will think of each other less and less." He said with a shrug.
