King Mellark's Pov:

Today was the day and he didn't show up. It didn't even pass his mind to tell me he would't. My wife is so upset and frustrated about this that she said, "Next time I see him, he will wish he had never been born!"

Of course I talk her from it but in a way i actually agree with her. How could he do this to my only son! It has always been a tradition to show the new royal generation out to the kingdom a month after they were born. And today was the day we showed my son, the little prince of Panem and my only brother didn't even have the heart to come. With anger running in my veins i walk through the corridor of my castle, on my way to the west wing where I know my brother will be. Or you could say hiding as the coward he is. When I'm about to turn the corner I hear a deep male voice calling out my name.

"Wheat!"

I turn around and sees my royal hunter and my life long friend, James Everdeen walking forward me. James is a man in his late twenties with brownish hair and silvery gray orbs. Him and I have been good friends for a long time now. I remember when we were children and he actually saved my life from some wild dogs by shooting them with his bow and arrow and ever since then, he have been my royal hunter and friend.

"Oh hello James how are you?. Shouldn't you be home right now?" I curiously ask him with a smirk on my face.

For the past 4 months he has been home with his wife Mary and new born daughter. The reason being his wife got a birth depression. He chuckles.

"Yes, but Greasy Sae called and told that she needed some fresh meat for tonight and because it's a big day today I thought that it wouldn't harm to spend a couple of hours in the forest" he says with a big smile creeping onto his lips. We begin walking to go to the west wing where I was heading in the first place.

"So.. how's Mary and your daughter?" I ask James.

"There are good. Very good actually. Katniss looks more and more like me." The proudly grin he gives makes me think of how thankful and proud I already am for my own child. Seeing my friend this happy immediately brings a smile to my face.

"I'm glad to hear that and I hope that you can come and hunt for me again very soon." He lets out a small chuckles as he lightly push his shoulder against mine in a jokey way.

"Yeah I hope so too.. if Mary is well enough with her depression to take care of Katniss alone."

"I'm sure she is. She's a strong woman, you know."

"Yeah she is." I watch him nod his head in agreement. There were a couple of minutes in silence where the only sound is our shoes hitting against the marble floor.

"So your saying that you daughter looks more like you huh?" I ask.

"Yes she does. Dark hair and gray eyes." He informs me with a huge smile. I can't help but chuckles. This man is a born proud father.

"I'm sure she will get your hunting instincts when she gets older. I sure hope. We can never have too many hunters here."

"True but I think she will become a healer just like her mother."

"No matter what she become I have no doubt that she will be a perfect friend to my son."

"I hope your right Wheat, I hope your right."

When we finally get to the west wing James says that he probably should go to the kitchen with the fresh meat, so he say his goodbye and leave down the corridor. I sigh and wallk 25 meters down the hall to my brother's room. I really hope he has a good explanation for this. I lift my right hand and knock on the door. A few seconds passes before I can hear a faint voice say, "Come in"

I opens the door and was immediately hit by the strong unbearable smell of blood and roses. He stands there on his balcony admiring the white roses that he love so much. I walk in and closes the door but he was still just standing there without even look and see who just went in. I clears my throat and says,

"Hello Colorianus" Only there he turns his head in my direction and when he sees that its me his lips turns up into a fake smile.

"Ah Wheat. How is my loving big brother today?"

"I'm good, thank you." He just looked at me with raised eyebrowns

"Oh really?" he said unconvinced. I nod and just stand there and glance at him.

"Soo is there a good reason why you are here?" He asks after a few minutes of silence.

"Yes, unfortunately there is. I wondered why you did not come to the cermony today.." He looked at me dead in the eye. He shrugs his shoulders.

"What cermony?"

"The cermony where we introduced Peeta to the kingdom" i says with a raised voice.

"Was that today? Oh I'm sorry, I most have forgot about it."
You could clearly hear the sarcasm, meaning that he didn't mean what he just said.

"You should have been one of the first in line." I tell him firmly.

"I WAS" he shouts. "I was the first in the line for the throne, until that little beast was born." You do not treat your king like this, and certainly not your older brother.

"That BEAST is my son and your future king" I yells back at him.

"Oh I'm so scared. I almost shiver of horror!" he says with a devilish smile on his face. My face is almost red with anger but i calm myself down before i say.

"You will never get the throne Colorianus. Trust me."

"We will see, big brother." He answers. With that i storms out of the room and shut the door with all my strength.

He will never be king. Never.
