Chapter 11:
~Matt~
I couldn’t help but to let my thoughts drift away to Hailey. Now, Natalie wasn’t the only one who was a bit suspicious and... worried. What was she hiding? And what I heard from Natalie, there’s no way she’s going to talk to her soon. Then maybe, I can help a little. But I don’t want to step into anything that isn’t my bussiness. But then I think about how sad Natalie’s face looked when she told me. I have to do something. I don’t know what. But only thinking about concerned Natalie looked, makes me sad. Gosh, I sound like such a girl! Maybe I can talk to Hailey or something and ask her about it, right on my way to Lauren today. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. But where does she live? In no time, I got her adress from a friend of mine. We used to be project-partners in ICT, but that was until he had to switch classes to a higher level. Anyways... I am on my way now to Hailey’s, but I have absolutely no idea how I’m going to ask her. Maybe just ask her directly without any shit around it. I frown when I see Dylan’s car parked in the street. What? What is he doing here? I shrug my shoulders. Maybe he’s just visiting someone. I arrive in less then ten minutes. I unclasp my seatbelt and step out of my truck. I walk onto the frontporch and sigh when I was infront of her door. Well, hopefully I will get some things out of her. I knock on the door. A girl, which I guess is Hailey, opens the door and frowns when she sees me.
“Matt McAdam? What are you doing here?” She asked confused. I ignored the fact how rude that sounded. Her face goes from confused to shock. Before I could ask her what I wanted to ask her, she quickly shuts the door in my face with a lame excuse, saying she has to go to the bathroom. Okay, what the hell is going on? Now, I understand more how Natalie must be feeling. Confused and a little bit offended. She practicly pushed the door shut in my face. I shrug it off and decided not to ask anything about it any further. First, I needed answers. I want to knock again but then Hailey opens the door, for the second time. I drop my lifted hand. There was something off about Hailey. I just don’t know what. I hear some weird stumbling upstairs and frown at Hailey’s face expression. Okay, something is really off.
“Erm, is everything okay, Hailey?” I ask.
“Erm. Yeah, yeah. Totally!” She says and I couldn’t quite hear if she was lying or not. “I’m sorry, but why are you here exactly?”
“Actually, I’m here for Natalie.” She frowns and that’s my cue to continue. “Can I come in?” She waits for a minute before she nods. I follow her into the house right into the livingroom. She closes the door behind me and decide to just go with it. “So, what is going on with you and Natalie? She told me you have been avoiding her. Why?” She sighs.
“I-I can’t tell-“
“Why not?” I ask frustrated. “Why not, Hailey? Don’t you see Natalie is worried sick about you? About her friendship with you? She thinks she said or did something wrong. You’re not telling something. What is it?” I feel a bit bad for snapping at her, because I don’t know her that well, but I really want to know.
“Why are you so worked up about it? It’s not your problem. Does Natalie even know you’re here? Why are you so concerned about it?” She asks me, obviously trying to change the subject.
“Don’t change the subject. And I don’t know. I’ve seen Natalie. She’s quite upset about it and... I don’t... want to see her unhappy.” I answer anyway. I felt a bit weird after saying that.
