The Calm Before Command

Start from the beginning

JENNIE
You were brilliant today.

LISA
I wasn't sure if the President would approve... I improvised the motorcade reroute. Broke protocol.

JENNIE
(softly)
You broke protocol, saved lives, and outsmarted an ambush. She should kneel.

Lisa laughs, tired and fond. She looks at Jennie.

LISA
You watched from afar?

JENNIE
I watched you.

A beat. Lisa looks down at Jennie's necklace — still wearing the serpenti heart. It glimmers faintly in the moonlight.

LISA
You still wearing that?

JENNIE
It's part of me now.

Lisa exhales slowly. The tension between politics, duty, and love pressing down.

LISA
Do you think... we'll get peace after all this?

JENNIE
(with quiet conviction)
Not peace. But I think we'll survive long enough to make our own version of it.

INT. SQUAD COMMON ROOM – LATER THAT NIGHT

The squad is finally unwinding. Jisoo's got a bottle open, pouring drinks. Rosé's on the couch, guitar in hand. Irene is nursing a minor wound, Seulgi helping her patch it. Somi's laughing over something Jungkook said. Lisa and Jennie enter together.

JISOO
(to Lisa)
Captain. Permission to make a toast?

LISA
(grinning)
Granted.

Jisoo raises her glass.

JISOO
To Lisa. Who managed to stop a terror plot, charm a president, and still look like she walked out of a damn fashion ad.

EVERYONE
Cheers!

Laughter erupts. But under the noise, Lisa leans into Jennie's ear.

LISA
(whispering)
You looked even better watching me win.

JENNIE
(whispering back, amused)
You love when I stare.

LISA
Only when you don't look away.
Jennie meets her eyes. Doesn't look away.

SEASON 4, EPISODE 6: "The Calm Before Command" - PART 2

INT. LISA AND JENNIE'S PRIVATE ROOM – LATE NIGHT

The squad is wrapped in a controlled chaos of laughter and teasing, the tension from the day's mission still hanging in the air, but Lisa and Jennie slip away quietly, making their way into the privacy of their room. The door clicks shut, muffling the world outside.

Lisa leans against the wall for a moment, eyes heavy, as if the weight of the mission is finally catching up with her. Jennie stands by the bed, still in her tactical gear, but her eyes are softer now, more understanding than usual. She approaches Lisa slowly, sensing the crack in her usual impenetrable exterior.

LISA
(tired, soft)
It's all so much. Sometimes... I wonder if I'm just a weapon they built, something to move and fire.

Jennie steps closer, her fingers brushing Lisa's hand.

JENNIE
(gently)
You're more than that. You've always been more.

Lisa looks at her, her gaze vulnerable for the first time in a long while. The hardness, the defenses she's built, start to fade as Jennie holds her gaze. She wants to believe her words.

LISA
(small smile)
Maybe. But I never felt like I was allowed to be anything else.

Jennie moves closer, cupping Lisa's cheek with her hand, her thumb brushing over the bruise on Lisa's face from earlier in the day. Her touch is tender, a silent promise to heal whatever scars are left unseen.
