“This time she's gonna fix her heart and make it bullet proof”
Do you know why she’s making it bulletproof? Because it was wounded, from her only love. Now she’s guarded, and that one person ruined her heart. Is she can’t let anyone in, she won’t love again.
“This time she's gonna get real, love the skin she's in”
She used to love herself. As a child, when only innocence filled her brain. But since then she has explored the world, and is now understanding of the cruel happenings out there. She was left scarred and insecure, and caves into the disaster she has fallen into. But if she doesn’t love herself, what can she do with her life?
“He says just because you say it's true, it don't mean it is”
He had learned that the hard way. Not from a stranger he began to know, but from his parents. The lovely beings that brought him to life; completely trusted. But who would keep that sort of secret from their own child? He deserved to know, and had trust issues because of his so called “parents”.
“He says one day we will look back and it will make us laugh”
He says that because he hopes the situation isn’t true. He hopes he isn’t broken; isn’t trying to fake a smile. He’s known people with problems, but never himself. He is trying to keep the hope that one day he will look back with a smile playing on his lips, taking note of how silly he was. But then he realizes he’s not naïve enough to believe the lies.
“Have you ever met a man who never loved at all?”
You probably haven’t but what about the men who have loved? Have been loved, yet broke into tiny frail pieces. The person who broke them might be happy now; new husband, new family. But they left that man in the dust, and now he doubts. Doubting his actions, his life, even himself all because of that person. So how is he supposed to learn to love again when no one is there to show him the way?
“She says it's harder to smell the roses when the sun don't shine”
How can people tell her look on the bright side, when she is only engulfed in darkness? She is hoping there is an end to the black hole, but no light peeks out. Left alone, fighting for herself, she is no longer a fool. She realizes there is no person at the top of the hole, reaching a rope down. But maybe if a person stops and looks down that dreadful hole, they will help. Just maybe…
“We’re just two little street angels with dirty faces”
People always look at these others, and hope, pray, think “someone will be there to help them.” But then you have to realize you are someone. You could help them get out of their dreadful place; show them the greatness of the world. The sun, roses, the naïve ones that hope could lead them back to where they once were.
If you don’t help them, maybe your one of them; the broken ones, who need help.
“When you shoot across the sky like a broken arrow
It's so hard to keep yourself on the straight and narrow
When you shoot across the sky like a broken arrow
You fall off course,
Yeah when you hit the ground
It's hard to get to heaven when you're born hell bound”
