⍟ Broken Strings {A Chaos Theory x Male Reader Story - Yasmina}

𝟼. 𝙰𝚕𝚕 𝙽𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 𝙻𝚘𝚗𝚐

Yaz pants, sweating and looking like she saw a ghost, "...RUN!"

Y/N looks behind Yaz to see a large dinosaur sprinting after them. He pulls Yasmina out of the way as the creature snaps its jaws at them and the pair take off running back to the boats.

The others rush towards them, Y/N and Yaz ushering for them to turn around.

"Go back!" Y/N shouts.

"Move, move!" Yaz cries.

The rest of them scramble to turn around as the couple pick up their speed to catch up. But just as they're nearing the boats another dinosaur emerges from the murky water, stalking towards them.

The group find themselves cornered between the two predators with nowhere to run. The two beasts slowly approach each other, ready to fight.

Y/N and Yaz hit the ground, taking cover as one of the dinos swings its tail. Darius shields Zayna with a protective arm as the two dinosaurs charge and everyone jumps out of the way.

With the creatures distracted the group heads back for the boat, hoping to make it this time. They slide around in the dirt, jumping into their escape.

"Start the boats!" Kenji cries as he pushes the first boat into the water.

Darius tries to push the second one, but it's stuck in the grass. Zayna leaps out, joining him in his effort but it barely budges. As they struggle to get it free the larger dinosaur of the pair conquers the other, crushing it neck between its teeth.

The dinosaur flings its foes body towards the group and Darius and Zayna leap inside just as the dinos lifeless body slams into the boat and pushes it into the water.

Nobody moves. They all just stare wide eyed as they float into the current, the large predator slowly stomping into the water.

The creature pauses, only one foot in as it snarls at the group. It stands there for only a moment longer before slowly backing away into the darkness of the island.

Y/N grumbles, banging on the motor as it stutters and shakes, "No, no! God da--"

"The engines are too hot!"

Just as he's about to hit the motor once more, Yaz takes his hand in hers with a smile, "It's okay, N/N. We're safe." She brushes some of his hair from his forehead.

Y/N takes a deep breath, "I was just so sc--"

"I was so scared!" Kenji cuts in, diving in between them and wrapping Yasmina in a hug, "I am so sorry for leaving you behind, and for--"

"Okay!" Yaz cuts him off, patting him on the back awkwardly, "Don't beat yourself up, Kenj."

Kenji takes a deep breath, not letting go of the hug.

"Kenji..." Yasmina warns with a sigh.

"Ah!" Kenji backs away, clearing his throat wiping the tears from his eyes as he pulls away.

"I really wanna hug my boyfriend right now." Yaz smiles, trying to politely shoo Kenji off.

"Oh! Right!" Kenji glances between Y/N and Yaz, "Say no more! Turning away..." He walks towards the back of the boat.

With Kenji gone, Yaz and Y/N come into each other's arms, holding the other tightly.

"I thought I lost you, Yaz." Y/N relaxes into the embrace.

"I'm right here." Yasmina smiles.

"Suchomimuses, Dimorphodons, and now another Majungasaurus." Darius lists off the dinosaurs they've seen so far as they continue down the river, "There sure are a lot of dinosaurs around here."

"Is that normal?"

Zayna hums, "And what happens when I say it's not?"

"Well, it means we're on the right track." Y/N sighs.

"Look." Ben points out to a large metal structure on the nearby shore, "I recognize that shipping container."

"Which means that must have been the same Majungasaurus from the cargo ship!" Darius points out, "But that would've been too big to come up this river."

"Maybe Captain Lang unloaded the dinos onto smaller boats. Though, by the look of this debris, and the Majungasaurus running around, at least one of those smaller boats didn't make it where it was going." Ben observes.

"But... where does that go?" Zayna points out a mysterious trail in the river, the same way the cargo must have floated in.

"This must be what I saw on the map." Ben ponders.

"Well, the cargo ship was headed to the Broker..." Darius pauses.

"Which means the boat they were using were going there too." Ben adds.

"And so were the eggs. Before we took em." Sammy nods.

"So we're going to go up there, right?" Zayna looks around at the adults, "TO find the Broker, the eggs and Geba?"

"Definitely." Sammy smiles, "In this fam, we keep going till we get our loved ones back."
