The night air was cool against your flushed skin, but Liu Xiao’s warmth was all-consuming. His lips were still on yours, slow now—less rushed, more deliberate, like he wanted to take his time memorizing you.
When he finally pulled away, his forehead rested against yours, his breath uneven. His hands still held you close, fingers tracing lazy circles against your back like he wasn’t ready to let go just yet.
For a long moment, neither of you spoke. The rooftop was quiet except for the distant hum of the city below and the steady rhythm of your breathing, tangled together like everything else between you.
Then, softly—almost hesitantly—Liu Xiao spoke.
“You’re dangerous.”
You blinked up at him, still catching your breath. “Me?”
He huffed, shaking his head slightly before tilting your chin up, his thumb grazing your jaw in a way that made your stomach flip. “You make me forget to be careful.”
Something in his voice made your heart ache. There was a weight to his words, something unspoken lingering between them.
You reached up, running your fingers through his hair, watching the way his eyes fluttered shut at your touch. “Maybe you don’t have to be,” you murmured.
His eyes opened again, searching yours, something vulnerable flickering beneath the usual sharpness. Then, after a beat, he let out a quiet chuckle. “Reckless.”
You grinned. “Takes one to know one.”
His smirk returned, but it was softer now, something rare and real. “Come on,” he said, finally stepping back—but not before lacing his fingers through yours. “I’m taking you home.”
You squeezed his hand, letting him lead you down from the rooftop. “You mean you’re walking me home?”
Liu Xiao glanced at you, his thumb brushing over your knuckles in a way that sent a spark through your chest. “No,” he said simply. “I meant what I said.”
Your breath caught, heat creeping up your neck as the meaning sank in. He wasn’t just taking you home—he was staying.
You didn’t argue.
Instead, you smiled, holding onto his hand a little tighter as you walked together into the night.
