Liu Xiao was different after that night.
He didn’t pull away anymore. Instead, he sought you out in the quiet moments—lingering by your side, brushing his fingers against yours just to feel you close. His touches were small but deliberate, his gaze softer when it landed on you.
You noticed the change most when he invited you to his apartment for the first time.
It was late, and neither of you wanted to part ways just yet. The city outside was alive with neon, but inside his home, it was quiet—just the two of you in a space that felt so him. Minimalistic, yet oddly warm in a way you hadn’t expected.
"You don’t bring people here often, do you?" you teased, glancing around.
Liu Xiao sat on the couch, watching you with a quiet intensity. "No."
You smiled, setting your bag down before moving to sit beside him. "Then I’m honored."
His lips twitched in amusement, but he didn’t reply. Instead, his hand found yours, fingers lacing together easily now, as if he’d been meant to hold you all along.
For a while, neither of you spoke. The city lights filtered through the window, casting soft patterns on the floor. It was peaceful—just you, Liu Xiao, and the quiet hum of the world outside.
Then, he shifted, lifting your joined hands to his lips. The kiss was slow, deliberate, his lips warm against your skin. Your breath hitched.
"You’re important to me," he murmured, voice barely above a whisper.
Your heart swelled. "You’re important to me too."
He exhaled, pressing another kiss to your palm before gently pulling you closer. His arm wrapped around you, securing you against his chest. You could hear his heartbeat—steady, real.
For so long, Liu Xiao had kept people at arm’s length. But now, he was letting you in.
You tilted your head, pressing a soft kiss to his jaw. He stiffened for a brief moment before relaxing, his hold on you tightening slightly.
"You’re getting bold," he murmured, amusement laced in his tone.
You grinned. "Maybe."
His fingers traced gentle patterns along your arm, absentminded but affectionate. "I like it."
A comfortable silence settled between you as you rested against him, completely at ease in his warmth. Outside, the city carried on. But in this moment, in Liu Xiao’s arms, the world felt perfect.
Neither of you needed words to know—this was just the beginning.
And neither of you would ever let go.
