The Next Day: Lan Wangji Takes Wei Wuxian to a Beautiful Place
The morning sun had just begun to rise, casting a soft golden light across the Cloud Recesses. Wei Wuxian had woken up early, as she often did, her thoughts a mixture of anticipation and concern about the future. She was deep in thought, gazing out the window, when Lan Wangji entered the room.
He stood silently by the door, as calm and composed as ever. His presence was soothing, and it immediately eased the tension in Wei Wuxian’s heart.
— Wei Ying, — he said quietly, his voice gentle, yet firm. Today, I want to show you something.
Wei Wuxian turned to face him, her curiosity piqued. She could tell that there was something different in his tone today—something warmer, more inviting.
— What is it? — she asked, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Where are we going?
Lan Wangji’s lips curled into the smallest of smiles, though it was subtle.
— Follow me.
The Journey to the Beautiful Place
They walked together in silence, Wei Wuxian’s hand lightly brushing against Lan Wangji’s as they made their way through the Cloud Recesses. The air was fresh, the sounds of nature surrounding them in peaceful harmony. It wasn’t long before they arrived at a secluded area, a hidden garden that Wei Wuxian had never seen before.
The place was breathtaking. A tranquil pond, surrounded by delicate flowers and weeping willows, reflected the soft light of the morning. Birds chirped overhead, and the scent of jasmine and lilac filled the air. It was a paradise, serene and untouched, as if the world itself had decided to pause here in this special place.
Wei Wuxian’s breath caught in her throat as she took in the beauty around her. She turned to Lan Wangji, her eyes wide with amazement.
— This is… beautiful, Lan Zhan.
Lan Wangji simply nodded, his gaze softening as he watched her take in the scene. He led her to a small bench under a willow tree, where they sat together. There was a quiet peace between them, and Wei Wuxian could feel the weight of the moment.
She glanced at Lan Wangji, noticing the slight tension in his posture, something different in the way he was looking at her today. His usual stoic expression had softened, and his eyes held a warmth she wasn’t used to seeing.
After a long moment of silence, Lan Wangji turned to her. His voice, though calm, held a certain tenderness.
— Wei Ying, — he began, his eyes steady but vulnerable. I have wanted to tell you something.
Wei Wuxian’s heart fluttered, sensing the seriousness in his tone. She turned to face him more fully, her curiosity piqued.
— What is it, Lan Zhan?
He took a deep breath, his gaze never leaving hers.
— I have spent so much time with you, and I’ve come to realize something important. I... care for you, Wei Ying.
Wei Wuxian’s eyes widened in surprise, her heart skipping a beat. The words hung in the air between them, and she could feel the weight of them pressing down on her chest.
— You… care for me? — she echoed, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lan Wangji nodded slowly, his voice steady but filled with something deeper.
— I care for you deeply, Wei Ying. Not just as a companion, or someone I must protect, but as someone who means more to me than words can express.
Wei Wuxian could hardly believe what she was hearing. Lan Wangji had always been calm and composed, never one to openly express his emotions. But now, there was something in his eyes—a tenderness, a longing—that made her heart ache.
She could feel her own emotions stirring, a mixture of warmth and uncertainty filling her. She had always known that Lan Wangji was special to her, but hearing him speak so openly about his feelings made her chest tighten.
— Lan Zhan… — she whispered, her voice shaking slightly. I didn’t know you felt that way.
Lan Wangji’s hand, which had been resting by his side, slowly reached out to take hers. He didn’t speak, but the gesture was more than enough. It was a silent promise, an unspoken commitment to the bond they were forging.
— I want to be with you, — he said softly. I want to court you, Wei Ying. Will you allow me to?
Wei Wuxian’s breath caught in her throat. The question, simple yet profound, made her heart race. She had never expected this moment to come so soon, but now that it was here, she found herself smiling despite the uncertainty in her heart.
— Lan Zhan, — she said, her voice barely a whisper, but filled with warmth. I… I want that too.
A faint smile curved Lan Wangji’s lips at her response, and in that moment, the world around them seemed to fade away. All that remained was the quiet understanding between them—the promise of something new and beautiful, something they would explore together.
He leaned in slowly, his forehead gently resting against hers, as if to seal the unspoken agreement between them.
— Then, we will take this step together, Wei Ying, — he murmured softly. I will court you, and we will walk this path together, no matter where it leads.
Wei Wuxian’s heart fluttered as she nodded, her eyes closing for a moment, allowing herself to be enveloped in the warmth of his presence.
— Together.
And in that peaceful, beautiful place, with the quiet sounds of nature surrounding them, Wei Wuxian felt a sense of calm that she hadn’t known before. It was as if everything had fallen into place, and though the future remained uncertain, she knew that with Lan Wangji by her side, they would face whatever came together.
