As the days went by and Wei Wuxian’s pregnancy became more evident, the question of how and when to tell Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen loomed over them. Lan Wangji’s clan was a prestigious one, and the expectations were always high. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji both knew that revealing this news would not be easy, especially given the circumstances of their relationship and the traditions that the Lan family held dear.

One quiet evening, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji stood before Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen in the main hall of the Cloud Recesses. Lan Qiren sat at his usual place, his stern expression as fixed as ever, while Lan Xichen sat beside him, his demeanor calm but attentive. There was a certain weight in the air, as if the very walls were holding their breath.

Wei Wuxian could feel the nervous tension in her stomach, but beside her, Lan Wangji remained his usual steady self. His presence beside her was a calming force, but even so, she knew this conversation would be difficult. They hadn’t expected to share such personal news so soon, but now, there was no turning back.

Lan Qiren looked at them both, his sharp eyes glinting as he noticed their serious expressions.

— What is it? — he asked, his voice low and inquisitive. Is something wrong?

Wei Wuxian hesitated, her hand instinctively finding Lan Wangji’s. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, but she also knew she had to speak up.

— Uncle Lan, — Wei Wuxian began, her voice quiet but firm. There is something we need to tell you both.

Lan Qiren’s eyes narrowed slightly as he studied them.

— Speak then, Wei Wuxian.

She glanced at Lan Wangji, who gave her a reassuring nod. Taking a deep breath, she continued.

— I am… pregnant.

There was a stunned silence that followed. Lan Qiren’s eyes widened, and he looked from Wei Wuxian to Lan Wangji as though he hadn’t fully processed the words. Lan Xichen, ever the calm one, blinked before leaning forward slightly.

— Pregnant? — Lan Xichen’s voice was gentle, but there was a clear undertone of surprise in his words.

Wei Wuxian nodded, her hand now tightly gripping Lan Wangji’s.

— Yes. It’s true.

For a long moment, no one said anything. Lan Qiren’s face was unreadable, his gaze flickering to Lan Wangji, as if seeking confirmation. Lan Wangji stood quietly beside Wei Wuxian, his hand still resting lightly on her arm.

— Is this true, Wangji? — Lan Qiren finally asked, his voice sharp.

Lan Wangji nodded. His expression was calm, but the slight tightening of his jaw betrayed the tension he felt.

— It is true, Uncle. We will face this together.

Lan Qiren was silent for a long time, his sharp mind working through the situation. Finally, he sighed heavily, as though the weight of the news had settled on his shoulders.

— This… is unexpected, — he said, his voice heavy with the weight of responsibility. But I suppose it cannot be undone now.

Lan Xichen’s expression softened, and he stood up to approach them. His demeanor was calm and warm, the weight of the situation clear but tempered with his usual kindness.

— Wei Wuxian, — he said, his voice gentle, I know this is a difficult situation, but I have no doubt that you and Wangji will handle it with great care.

Wei Wuxian smiled weakly, her nerves still unsettled by the unexpected turn of events.

— Thank you, Xichen.

Lan Xichen nodded, then turned to Lan Qiren, who was still sitting silently, though his stern expression had softened just a little.

— Uncle, — Lan Xichen said, his voice a bit more serious now, perhaps it would be best to give them both some time. They need to adjust to this new reality, as do we.

Lan Qiren grunted, not quite agreeing but also not dismissing the suggestion.

— You’re right, as always, — he muttered, though his voice was less sharp than before. I do not approve of such... hasty actions, but I will not stand in their way. This is a complicated situation, but the Lan family must stand behind its own, regardless of the circumstances.

Wei Wuxian felt a sense of relief at those words, though she knew Lan Qiren’s approval didn’t come easily.

Lan Wangji gave a slight bow, his expression as neutral as ever.

— Thank you, Uncle. We will make sure this does not interfere with our duties.

Lan Xichen smiled warmly at the both of them, though his gaze lingered on Wei Wuxian for a moment.

— Take care of each other, — he said softly. This is a difficult time, but you are not alone in it.

The weight of the conversation lifted slightly, and Wei Wuxian felt a strange mixture of emotions. She was relieved, yes, but there was still so much to process.

As they left the hall, Lan Wangji took her hand gently, guiding her down the hallway. She looked up at him, her expression still mixed with worry and uncertainty.

— Lan Zhan… do you think they’ll be okay with this?

He nodded, his gaze steady and reassuring.

— They will be. It may take time, but in the end, we are family.

Wei Wuxian smiled softly, feeling the weight in her chest ease just a little. The road ahead would be difficult, but she knew with Lan Wangji by her side, they would face whatever came together.
