Lan Wangji returned not long after, carrying a small bundle of supplies. He placed them beside the bed with the same calm efficiency he did everything—like taking care of a sick Wei Wuxian was no different from playing guqin or slaying demons.

— Drink this.

Wei Wuxian squinted at the steaming cup he handed her.

— What is it?

— Medicinal tea.

Wei Wuxian sniffed it. Bitter. Definitely Lan Wangji’s doing.

— Ugh, I’d rather suffer, — she grumbled, but took a sip anyway.

The warmth settled in her stomach, easing the cramps just a little.

She let out a slow breath, flopping back onto the pillow.

— So, what now? We’re still going to Gusu, right?

Lan Wangji hesitated.

Wei Wuxian narrowed her eyes at him.

— Lan Zhan. Don’t tell me you’re thinking of changing our plans just because of—this?

Lan Wangji was silent for a moment, then—

— We can stay another day.

Wei Wuxian groaned dramatically.

— No way! I’m not letting a little stomach pain delay us. Besides, the faster we leave, the faster I get a proper bath, right?

She grinned at him, but Lan Wangji’s frown deepened slightly.

— If you are unwell, rest is necessary.

Wei Wuxian sighed, stretching her arms over her head.

— Lan Zhan, I’m always unwell in some way or another. Doesn’t stop me from moving.

Lan Wangji gave her a look.

She grinned again, but softened.

— Seriously, let’s just go. I don’t want to stay in this creepy inn any longer than we have to.

Lan Wangji seemed to consider this. Then, finally, he nodded.

— We leave in one hour.

Wei Wuxian cheered—only to immediately regret it as another cramp hit her.

She groaned, curling into herself.

Lan Wangji didn’t say anything.

But he did hand her another cup of tea.

With a look.

Wei Wuxian pouted, but drank it anyway.

And an hour later, they were gone, leaving the inn—and the lingering feeling of unease—far behind them.

Next stop: Gusu.
