Script 22: Curtain call

Start from the beginning

Chaewon sighed before walking down the stage to meet Sieun. "I'm just," she stops, trying to come up with something she can use as an excuse. "I'm just kind of nervous."

The president stares at her. The kind that Chaewon knew all too well. It was the kind of stare that Sieun does whenever she knows that someone is lying but won't call them out on it.

Her stare alone would make them confess and tell the truth.

But it seemed that Chaewon had become slightly immune to this as she turned her head, walking away from Sieun to grab a water bottle on one of the tables they had positioned near the backstage door.

Sieun had to follow her to question her directly.

"Is that really the reason, Chaewon?"

Chaewon held the bottle tighter in her hand as she downed almost half of it.

She wasn't necessarily thirsty. Maybe she just did it to make Sieun wait longer... or maybe it was to give herself more time to come up with another excuse.

"Sieun, I really am just nervous. We've only got a week to prepare."

"The Chaewon I know doesn't get nervous."

Chaewon rolls her eyes at the comment but refuses to say a word about it. Sieun pushes further, "The Chaewon I know would be ecstatic to know that we only have a week left before the official show."

Sieun had one of her eyebrows raised, and Chaewon chose not to look at her to see it.

"So tell me, what's really going on?"

The short-haired girl's lips push into a thin line.

Something in her was screaming and begging for Chaewon to just tell Sieun the truth about what she was currently feeling at the moment, but a part of her wanted to keep her mouth shut.

Because, really, what can Sieun even do about it? It's not like she can help her or anything...

Chaewon doesn't have a partner, and that's bothering her. That's all.

It's not like Sieun can magically make Yunjin heal faster...

It's not like Yunjin can just magically appear out of nowhere with no bandages, good as new, without a scratch, and start rehearsing with Chaewon as if nothing happened.

Before any of them could even move or speak, they heard someone come inside the auditorium. Chaewon was quick to look up, and to her surprise, it was none other than the journalism club's nosy president.

Yu Jimin came in smiling so widely like has good news to bring.

She usually doesn't bring any good news, and both Chaewon and Sieun knew that today couldn't be any different.

"Good afternoon, ladies." She says with that wide smile of hers.

"Done with the newspaper for this week already that you've come to pester us, Yu?" Chaewon spoke, and Sieun chuckled.

Karina was quick to furrow her brows at the smaller girl. "How did you know?!"

Chaewon rolls her eyes at the girl's feigned surprise and dramatic gasp. Sieun was quick to sense that Karina was actually here for Chaewon, and she was quick to slip away from the two.

Chaewon almost didn't notice.

"I'm here for you, Kim. Let's talk!"

Something in Chaewon felt like what Karina said meant something more than just telling her that she was there to see her. Chaewon felt like there was a different meaning to that.
