I stand at a crossroads, my mother's shadow stretching long behind me, her voice still echoing in my mind. Even now, I can hear the manipulation laced in her words, the guilt woven so tightly around me that it's hard to breathe.
She has always had this hold over me, a grip so tight that even when I pull away, I still feel the weight of her control. Her actions have torn me away from friends, family, even relationships I once cherished—because, after all, she's my mother. And a mother wouldn't lie. A mother wouldn't hurt her child.
Or so I believed.
But now, I see the truth. The woman who once promised she would never harm me has done exactly that—over and over again. Now, I stand before a decision I never thought I'd have to make: cut her out of my life completely and protect my future, or let her back in and risk losing myself all over again.
I wish this were an easy choice, but it's not. Love—especially a mother's love—should be unconditional. Mine came with rules, expectations, strings so tangled that even now, I struggle to separate what was real from what was manipulation.
For so long, I let her shape me into what she wanted. I followed the path she laid out, trying to be the son she could be proud of, the son she could show off to the world. But no matter how hard I tried, it was never enough.
Her love was never truly for me—it was for the version of me that served her best.
But now, I have a choice.
Before I can decide what my future holds, I have to go back to where it all began.
