"Devil's Lake" is a story that has been brewing in my head for two decades. The original manuscript was called many things, but one particular title I remember was "Unforgettable." I kept imagining Nat King Cole's song running in the background. And it seems to fit as the main protagonist suffered from amnesia.

Throughout all that time, the story took place on a fictitious lake in a fictitious town. But in 2009, my now-husband took me on a day trip to Devil's Lake. While we were hiking along the edge of the lake, I found myself doing a little exploring. "Philip could stand here when . . . It'd work, and what a great name. It'd make a perfect title."

It did scare me though. I always wrote about fictitious places. I was petrified of writing about a real location. I thought it'd be confining. But as I began researching the name's origin, ghost stories, and legends, I found even more fuel for my imagination. The story evolved, Philip evolved, and the title is just perfect. How could I not go with it?

A/N: I love how truth and fiction connect in this title, and myth and music as well! If you agree, vote with that star, and don't forget to visit the dedication to read DEVIL'S LAKE by Angela Merlo.
