1 YEAR BEFORE
The party was fun, as were all high school parties before your senior year. It was our end-of-summer party, where we got about 400 teenagers in the richest kid's house, and mixed it with beer, weed, and anything you can think of. The air smelled like hormones and bud light. I had had one too many jello shots as well as straight tequila. Sam and Manny were nowhere to be found, probably hiding away in some room doing things that nobody wanted to see including myself. As expected.
I was only there for Sam, of course, my best friend, the craziest girl, I know. She was my everything and her family was too, Lanni, her mom, and Oliver her older brother. They had become a second family to me. Sam and I had become best friends when we were 8 and ever since then we have become hip too hip. Nobody could break us apart. I was there every day after school, I was the first one she called when her Dad walked out at 11, my Mom drove me over there, I found a crying Sam and a crying Oliver and I sat with them until I knew that they would be okay, Lanni was nowhere to be found during this time. I guess you could say Sam is my soul best friend, I was meant for her and she was meant for me.
Her older brother Oliver is the love of my life. Lanni and my Mom, Amy, had called it ever since we were kids. When I was 8 and he was 10 he beat up a bunch of kids for making fun of my eyes, they would call me 'crazy eyes' and of course that doesn't sound hurtful when your 17 but damn, those kids were brutal. I mean personally, now I fully believe heterochromia is badass. Oliver would always make sure nothing ever happened to me. Sam was never bothered by the fact that I soon slowly began to like her brother or that sometimes my coming to hang out was for him and not her because she has Manny, her perfect boy. Manny was the only guy that could make her happy, and she knew Oliver was mine. She had already started calling me 'sister-in-law' when nobody was around. Everything was perfect. Oliver had admitted to liking me a week before the party, something I had been waiting for since we were 8. Everything was just going to plan.
Sam, Oliver, and I worked at Treehut Coffee together, the best coffee-book store in the region. After hours when we had closed sometimes we would sit at a small nook all the way in the back and talk about life and what we wanted to do after high school, for Oliver it was what he wanted to do after college. Sam would talk about how she wanted to be a nurse and get married to Manny and specifically have 1 girl. I would talk about how I wanted to travel to different countries and become a vlogger. Oliver always got quiet in these conversations, it's like he didn't completely know what he wanted to do.
I was sitting on this big red couch sipping on a wine cooler, taking in everything around me. I should go find Oliver and see what he is doing and if he would be down to find Manny and Samantha and head out because Oliver is the designated D.D. Standing up I started searching around the living room and kitchen, but he wasn't there. I headed upstairs to where the bathroom and rooms were.
Knocking on the bathroom door I said, "Oli, you in there,".
No answer.
Of course, it would be a little weird if he was in one of the rooms right? I mean people only use one of the rooms for activities that I do not participate in currently, no judgment here though. I could feel the tension in my chest tighten, this is strange, I thought to myself. I opened one of the doors but nobody was in there, I opened the second still nobody. That's of course until I got to the third door.
"Oliv-," I started but was quickly stopped because in a straight line of view was a completely undressed Oliver fucking a random college bitch. He turned around looking straight at me and automatic regret flashed across his face.
I turned around slamming the door as I heard Oliver yelling my name for me to come back and that it was not like that. I at this point was crying, hot tears coming down my face. I started opening every door yelling for Sam and Manny.
"Alch, Alch what's wrong," Sam came out of one of the doors farthest down the hallway with a shirtless Manny behind her.
Oliver then comes out of the door I had slammed shut previously and looks at me and then looks at Sam.
"What the fuck Oliver? Are you fucking serious?" Sam said to him screaming.
"It wasn't like that okay, it wasn't," He screamed back.
"Oh it's not fucking like that, so you weren't just fucking some whore even though you told Alch you literally are basically in fuckin love with her last week. Fucking shitface of a brother," Sam was basically screaming so loud that the whole house could hear, the people downstairs even turned the music down a little so everyone could hear the commotion.
"I am fucking sorry Sam, I know I fucked up," Oliver is saying while running his hands through his hair, tightly pulling. You can see Oliver's eyes start gleaming, tears, I felt anger at this point because no fucking way he gets to cry.
"Your fucking saying sorry to Sam, I am the girl you fucking like," I start yelling, Sam grabs my wrist knowing that my anger is shooting through the roof.
"It's not that serious Alch," Oliver says trying in every way to justify what I walked into.
"Don't fucking Alch me. You wanna know what's not that serious, the fact that I love you, you know what fuck that I loved you, past fucking tense now get the fuck out of my way so I can go the fuck home,".
"Alchemy you can't drive home, you're wasted, just give me a second, and I will get the keys and drive us all home," Oliver says stepping in front of me and looking at me. His voice is raspy and he sounds completely helpless.
"Oliver you are the last person I want to be in a car with right now," I say to him looking dead in his eyes.
"C'mon Alch, you can drive me and Manny home, fuck Oliver," Sam says to me in a serious tone.
"Alch, please do not drive home, it's not safe to drive when you're drunk," Oliver pleads with me but of course me being stubborn, I don't let him win.
"Don't even fucking speak to me," I say looking at him with the coldest expression. The tears had stopped at this point all I could think of was him and that girl. I grabbed Oliver by his wrist before sliding my hand into the pocket of his sweatpants and taking out the keys.
"Alchemy this is serious, I am not playing," Oliver says in a stern tone. The tears are still coming down from his eyes.
"Well, I mean you're fine with fucking playing in another girl's vagina but okay bud," I say before walking down the stairs with a drunk Sam and Manny behind me. Oliver stays where he was standing and is crying just as hard as the day his dad left. But it's not him who found me fucking another guy, it was me finding him. I was the only one with the right to cry.
I walk out the front door and Sam shuts it behind all of us.
"I am so sorry Alch, you know I love you, it's going to be okay," Sam says to me, but I do not respond, I just get in the car, and they get in the back, and do not speak another word to them.
What I didn't know was this was the last time I would talk to Oliver and the last time I would ever see Sam.
