The Freezing September air nipped at his exposed cheeks as he stood on the top of the hotel's balcony; pieces of unused building material and toolboxes were left scattered across the dusty floor. The smell of burning slime and gunpowder floated through the air and Quackity could practically feel himself shaking at the thought of what his country had turned into in a single night, a train wreck, a forgotten piece of history.

Slime stood a couple feet in front of him, his body covered in heavy enchanted armor. A netherite sword was held in his scarred palms, the top of it just barely scraping against the shield Quackity had managed to grab last minute. This wasn't how the plan was supposed to go, the slime army had worked but at what cost? His country was in flames, the thick ash from the attacks falling to the ground like an angry snow storm.

He had protected his honor and had fought back against the country's threats but was now left with nothing.

"Quackity from las Nevadas," Slime began to speak, his voice cheery despite the edge it held. "We have one thing in common... through everything we've been through, the same human ruined our lives."

Quackity could feel a lump form in his throat, he took a slight step back but froze once he felt the ledge of the balcony meet his heel. He took a quick glance away from his once friend and looked down to the ground; blood, soot, and slime painted the once polished roads of Las Nevadas like a corrupted canvas. The paradise now completely turned into rubble. There

"Slime I-" He began to speak.

Slime cut him off before he could finish, "Because you are not a good person."

The words stung like a blazing knife, a pain throbbed in his chest and he had to double check that he hadn't just been physically stabbed. No matter how long he could sit in denial he knew deep down that slime's words were true... he wasn't a good person. He's stolen, killed, tortured, and destroyed anything good that's ever come into his life. It was like a curse, he could never find happiness... he's always found a way to destroy it.

Slime took a step forward and lowered his sword, "It's like what you said with Lesson eight, Quackity, legacy is all you leave behind in this world."

His eyes widened slightly at the recognition of his past words, when he had gone through all that training and the lessons with Slime it felt so... important. He meant every word he taught Slime and had truly passed down the knowledge he had gained from the betrayals and experiences he had gone through.

However, standing here now, his feet barely on the ledge of a cliff and his heart beating so fast he wouldn't be surprised if it stopped, those lessons couldn't mean less.

Slime sighed and dropped his sword to the ground, the weapon letting out a quiet 'clink' as it met the hard wood. Quackity could feel his eyes begin to sting as he stared at what was once his closest and most loyal friend. What had happened to them?

"I hope you leave behind a good one," Slime finished darkly.

Quackity went to open his mouth to apologize and maybe even beg for Slime forgiveness when sudden cold hands were gripping his chest and wind was rushing past his ears. His eyes were wide as time seemed to slow down, his hand instinctively reached out to slime who stood on the balcony looking down at him as he fell towards the ground, but it was never grabbed.

Like an out of control turret he fell through the air; flashing colors from the empty hotel rooms and nearby casino filling his eyes. Each second was another story he passed by, his brain was desperately telling him to think but his body was unwilling to move. He suddenly was so tired.

For years he's been in a nonstop battle with those around him, when he first stumbled upon this land he was met with nothing but war and deception. He's had to fight for a place his whole life and now... he's lost that fight. He was done.
He had killed his best friend and in the process of trying to bring him back, destroyed his own country, the thing that he woke up every day for.
