First Chapter
The train's whistle fades as it slows to the station. Stepping off the platform, she weaves through the bustling station, her eyes scanning the street as she waits for a taxi. The evening air is cool, a gentle breeze brushing past as she slips into the back seat of a taxi. As the cab pulls away, she leans her head against the window, her long hair, a mix of black and brown cascading over her shoulder, catching the soft light. She closes her eyes, feeling the wind's gentle caress while the familiar streets roll by.
The cab pulls in front of her house. She slowly gets down from the car and walks around with a smile on her face. She pays the driver and quietly moves towards the door. The warmth of home fills her as she carefully lets herself inside.
Her father, Marco Amadio, 46, a restaurant owner, seated in the living room, looks up and freezes for a moment, a big smile slowly spreading across his face. Her little brother, David Amadio, 14, jumps up excitedly. "Sister!" he shouts, running over to her.
Father joins them, pulling her into a warm embrace. "What a surprise! My daughter," he says with a laugh.
Their voice and laughter filled the room, catching her mother's attention. She, Sofia Amadio, 45, rushes out of the kitchen, wiping her hand on a dish towel. "Nieve? Is that you!" she exclaims with excitement.
