Chapter 5: "Never Let Me Go"

I walked around the school a couple of times looking for a way out, I checked every door every window but it was no use they were either all locked or jammed. I sighed and made my way to a set of stairs and slumped down on them.  I was hungry, scared and tired so I did the only thing I could think of and the most craziest thing, I started singing "Never let me go, Never let me go" I whispered, every second I got a bit more hungrier, a bit more tired and a lot more scared "And the arms of the ocean are carrying me, And all this devotion was rushing out of me, In the crushes of heaven for a sinner like me, But the arms of the ocean delivered me" that song reminded me so much of my brother, he was a tough guy, quarter back on the football team, real ladies’ man, as he put it, but he couldn't help but love Florence and the Machines.

*flash back*

"Hey Ally!" My brother screeched through the phone "Kevin what are you doing?" I laughed back at him "Driving Sarah home" he laughed "What!? Why are you calling me!?" I shouted "Relax your on speakerphone" I heard my little sister giggle at me "We wanted to sing to you! Our song jut came on" Kevin laughed and I could hear Sarah joining him "You two are nuts!" I laughed "We didn't want you to miss out" Sarah replies just before her and Kevin start belting out the chorus "NEVER LET ME GO, NEVER LET ME GOOO!" I start laughing at them "OOHHH NEVER LET ME GO" I could just picture their faces and all I wanted was to be right there with them "Though the pressure's hard to take, It's the only way I can escape-" Sarah's and Kevin's singing was cut short by a blood curdling scream. I shouted into the phone but they couldn't hear me the line was dead

*end of flash back*

I sobbed into my hands as the memories of them in the hospital came rushing back, my fists clenched as the pain in my heart became unbearable and I started to get a headache, I saw my sister in her white hospital gown, lying on the hard bed, she looked so peaceful like she was sleeping but I knew she wasn't because her heart monitor had a flat line. Two days later my brother's did the same thing, his chest stopped rising and falling from his breathing, and his face was pale, I’ll never forget the words of advice he told me when no one was around "Just let us go" he whispered his voice hoarse, just before he went into unconsciousness and the beating of his heart stopped. My family was torn apart, my parents did the only thing they knew how, they started working all day all night to deal with the grief in their own way, leaving me to deal with it on my own. That’s when it happened, I let it all get to me. One lonely night I couldn't take it anymore, I smashed open my dad’s cupboard were I knew he kept the alcohol, opened a bottle of Wild Turkey and downed the whole thing in thirty minutes, I should of died from poisoning, but something kept me going, something told me that it wasn't my time yet, that I needed to keep fighting, and as stupid as it sounds I believed them.

Hours pasted and I was dry out of tears, I knew my parents wouldn't know that I was missing because there never home. I sat there thinking for a long time when it hit me, hard. "Oh my god! I'm such an idiot!" I said as I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone, 2% battery. I went through my contact list and my finger hovered over Melissa's number, I was about to press it when I heard glass smash.

I looked up from my phone and stood up, I slowly walked over to the direction we're I heard the glass smash and hid behind the corner; I clutched my phone in my hand and peered around the corner. The window was smashed and someone was climbing in, someone was breaking in! I watched as the person stood up and pulled another person in, then another, until there were three guys standing in the hall way. They were all dressed in black but there faces weren’t covered. There stood in front of me, the badass three.

 Relax Alec, they don't know you here, they're not here for you! I convinced myself they were talking in hushed voices until they turned and faced the spot where I was standing I let out a squeal of fright please don't faint again! I chanted in my head as I felt dizzy all of a sudden,

Fainting twice in a day can't be good for my health

 Shut up! This is not the place to be thinking about your health!

"What was that?" I heard Ace ask,

Crap, did I say that out loud?

 There was silence, I didn't realise I was holding my breath until Logan spoke "Dude, your hearing things" I heard Jake scoff "What?" Logan snapped sounding annoyed "O,oo you gonna punch my other eye now?" Jake said faking a scared voice, I risked a peek around the corner and saw Jake and Logan staring each other down "Don't tempt me" Logan said through clenched teeth "I didn't even hurt her man, she just fainted" Jake replied sounding deadly serious "Just stay away from her" Logan said and stepped away "Why? You like her man?" Jake teased, I felt my heart flutter at the thought of Logan liking me, and of course it was crushed by his next words "No! She's just been through enough, she doesn't need a jerk like you scaring the shit out of her!" Retorted Logan "Haven't you heard the rumours?" Logan asked Jake, he just shrugged "I don't listen to them"

At least someone in this school doesn't know about my life

"Guys shut up! We need to get Eric's stupid files and get out of here" Ace said sounding bored. I leant back against the wall and waited for them to walk away. Once I couldn't hear their footsteps anymore I walked over to the smashed window, I pulled my hood over my head and starting climbing out of the window,

I feel so badass..

Focus Alec!

I was half way through the window when I heard a voice behind me "Where you going darling?" I froze at the sound of Ace's voice, I kept me head down as he grabbed my arm and pulled me out from the window, I was standing in front of him "I’ll ask you again, what are you doing here?" He asked again I stayed silent trying to hide my face "Answer my question!" Ace sneered, I kept looking down, my hood pulled down so he couldn't see my face, I heard the others running down the hall way towards us and I was panicking.

Oh shit, what do I do? Distract him idiot! And make a run for it! My mind screamed at me. I didn't know what else to do so I raised my fist and it connected with his face with a loud crack, he gasped and pinched his nose with his hand, I didn't stay and find out if I broke it, I turned around I and jumped out the window. I could faintly hear the guys shouts from inside the school but I didn't stop until I was in the parking lot, I turned around and saw them jumping out the window "SPLIT UP AN FIND HER" I heard Jake shout, the guys split up and I ran down the street. I thought I lost them when I heard someone behind me running "Get back here!" I heard Logan's voice shout, he was close, I looked around and saw an allyway just up ahead, maybe I can lose him in there? I pushed my legs to go fasted and I reached the allyway, I turned the corner to go into it but I was shoved up against the wall, I whimpered as a sharp pain shot up my back. I was pinned back against the wall by my shoulders; Logan pushed back my hoodie and gasped "Alec?" He asked unsure "Let go of me!" I shouted in his face, and he did, I dropped down on the ground and rubbed my shoulders "What were you doing in the school Ally?" Logan asked me, I didn't answer him so he pushed me back up against the wall "Listen, I don't want to hurt you so answer me" Logan's voice was hard "I was locked inside" I whimpered as the pain came back in my back, Logan's eyes softened and he dropped me but didn't let go of my shoulders, I heard Ace and Jake calling his name, they sounded close, I looked at him with fear clearly in my eyes, Logan sighed and let go of me "Go home Alec" Logan told me, I didn't move I was too shocked, was he letting me go? That's it? No threat? No beating? "Run! Go now!" He shouted at me, I nodded and ran out of the allyway and down the street "Find her?" Jake asked Logan "Nope" was all he said "Little bitch" I heard Ace say but I didn't care, all that was going through my head was,

Logan Ryder just let me go, Logan Freaking Ryder just let me go.

 I’m glad that Logan was the one who find me, in a way, he saved me.
