Pelle Ohlin sat alone in his dim, cluttered room, the silence pressing in on him like a weight. The air was stale, thick with the scent of old leather jackets and forgotten cigarette smoke. His fingers traced the edge of his notebook, where half-scribbled lyrics and dark sketches filled the pages. Each word, each image, a reflection of the heaviness he carried inside. He was only 20 years old, but the depth of his sadness made him feel much older, like he had lived a hundred lifetimes of pain in just a few short years.

To the world, Pelle was the frontman of Mayhem, the rising star in the black metal scene, known for his stage presence and haunting voice. But to himself, he was nothing. Less than nothing. His stage name, "Dead," wasn't just an act-it felt like the most honest thing about him. On the outside, he was quiet, withdrawn, often disappearing into the shadows at shows or band rehearsals. His bandmates, Euronymous and Hellhammer, didn't understand. They saw his silence as intensity, his obsession with death as part of the image they were crafting together.

But Pelle wasn't pretending. He never had been. He felt a deep disconnect from the world around him, like an observer trapped in a life that wasn't his own. The music was his only escape, a way to channel the darkness that seemed to consume him more with each passing day. Yet, even in the music, there was no relief. Only an endless echo of the emptiness that followed him wherever he went.

In the rare moments when he spoke, his words were sharp, laced with a bitterness that cut through the room like a knife. His bandmates shrugged it off, writing it off as part of Pelle's persona, but deep down, they were unnerved by his intensity. Pelle lived his sadness, wore it like armor, and it was slowly pulling him further from the life everyone else thought he was living.
