[TW/CW: Cannibalism, Graphic Death, Minor Character Death, Guns, Self-Harm, Drug Mention]
It was early morning. At least, Trigger's internal clock said it was. Xey could rely on that pretty well though. It's done them good for their whole life, anyhow. The Nuclear Rabbit gootraxian stepped down the stairs into the shark pool, one paw on the railing and the other paw down at xeir side. Xey were holding a shiny, pristine Barrett M82, not bothering to hide it as they approached the water.
Xey had a pretty horrendously awful day today. A whole crate of that Typhoon Soot* that Trigger had worked hard for had disappeared. They had to guess it was probably some miscreant thieving from xem that they missed while xey were out. Needless to say, it had them determined to find the stupid little rat.
They had spent hours looking for whoever had stolen from them. Xey checked every piece of furniture, every hiding place, everywhere for that crate, and any clues as to who took it. Nothing. Absolutely. Nothing.
It was... Frustrating. They had grown tired of searching instead of doing the deed of killing off the thief. No repercussions or punishment for the vermin, and that just wasn't fair.
So, here they were. Exhausted and mentally unstable from the constant frustration they had felt all fucking day. Here they were, needing something to take their anger out on.
The tall green rabbit woman let go of the railing as xey stood knee-deep in utterly infested pools of dangerous shork-gootraxians. They reached into their pocket, taking out a small, simple knife and not hesitating in getting on with this. Xey slashed the blade across their arm, holding it out to let their fresh blood drip into the water. It was easy to tell it had woken up the critters hear, seeing as xey could spot fins rising from the surface.
Letting out a slightly manic-sounding chuckle, Mx. Magnolia spun the gun in her hands, letting the pocket knife drop and disappear into the water. Xey aimed the firearm at the closest fin, waiting at the exact moment for them to leap out of the water. As to be expected, it lunged out at Trigger, bursting huge splashes of water across pieces of furniture floating in the water alongside the nearby stairs and railing.
Xey were more than ready for it. They pushed the end of the gun muzzle into the shork's throat, immediately pulling the trigger and letting the bullets cascade through the aquatic's gullet. Thick red sprays of blood painted Trigger's hands as it dribbled and spilled into the pool below.
One or two shorks circled the body of their fallen comrade, and with vigor, dragged it into the water and away. Something about where the trail of blood clouds in the water became more immense when it stopped moving indicated that the shorks were having a bite to eat. Trigger wasn't surprised, those things were some of the most feral of gootraxians, and resorting to cannibalism wasn't all that uncommon with their species.
The fins above the surface that remained continued to circle the hare woman. The first halted in front of xem, and xey could feel the other behind xem stop simply from the way the water moved and the surface rippled. The shork in front of them jumped out and latched onto xeir cut arm, sinking their sharp, pointy teeth into xeir flesh.
Without any sort of reaction to the pain xey were supposed to be feeling, xey dropped the gun they were holding with that hand and grabbed the monster's face. They squeaked in surprise, their grip loosening as Trigger's grasp began to tighten. With a whine and a final yelp, Trigger crushed the Shork's skull with xeir fist.
Its brains splattered against xeir arm before grossly slipping off and into the water. Magnolia didn't ignore the blood already scattered across xem, oh no. Xey relished in it. As the shork behind them nipped at xeir ankles, xey lifted their heavy boot to smash it directly into the Shork's neck, pinning them in the water.
Xey bent down to grab the gun they had dropped, shoving the end of it into the creature's mouth and shooting a bullet into its head. They stilled, unmoving and dead.
There was a ring of gore and butchery lying sunken or floating around xem. The scent would usually be a good attractant to more shorks, but Trigger didn't think any of them would approach the sight of this mess, especially any that had seen xem completely rip and tear into the lesser gootrax.
As they stepped back up the stairs and away from the visceral scene in front of them, xey felt... odd. Xey wanted to feel a sense of pride, xey wanted to feel the excitement, the joy out of being able to take their rage out on something, relief, anything. But xey couldn't feel any of that. Xey couldn't feel anything. They still felt... unsatisfied. Empty.
They still needed to find that thief, or that feeling of emptiness wouldn't go away. Xey hissed something indiscernible under their breath.
"..Not enough." Xey had a strange, off tune look in their eyes.
They backed further away from the pool, and with a haunting giggle, all the lights in the facility shut off.
Trigger disappeared in the darkness.

[* Typhoon Soot is a powder type of drug that enhances gootraxians Hunting Instincts. Hunting Instincts are enhanced strength and bloodlust during BO or PO. For example; PO gootrax takes Typhoon Soot during PO, it takes effect. BO gootrax takes it during BO, it takes effect. It does not work as though a BO gootrax takes it during PO. Does not affect regular gootraxians.]
