AN: so here's something you might not know about me! I'm a huge Formula One fan! (GO FERRARI ❤️) and I was just watching the insane first qualifier for Singapore and it reminded me of when dnp went to the Singapore GP during II and thus this oneshot was born!

TW// high speed car crash, minor injuries, fire

"please just be careful out there Dan" Phil, the lead tech analyst at team Mercedes pleads with the team's star driver, and his best friend, Dan Howell

"Phil I'll be fine!" Dan reassures the worried man in front of him "I promise"

"I just don't like that this race is at night" Phil frowns "AND it was raining earlier so the track is still damp"

"ah but my friend you forget I have better eyesight than you!" Dan jokes lightly while gently adjusting the black rimmed glasses so they sat better on Phil's nose

"last checks before formation lap!" a disembodied male voice announces over the tannoy

"looks like I'm needed!" dan breathes out into the cold evening air

he glances over at his still anxious friend who's eyes were firmly pointed at the floor

"Phil" dan pulls his chin up to face him "I'll be ok. I promise you"

dan wraps his arms tightly around Phil as the ever so slightly shorter man's shoulders relaxed before their head mechanic Jo calls him over to do some final checks of his seatbelt and other cockpit safety features, as requested by Phil for his own peace of mind

within 20 minutes the final checks were completed and Dan was in his car in position on the grid. A pretty respectable 4th place following the qualifying laps the previous days as well as his total points for the season so far.

"GO GO GO!!" the commentator shouts as the the cars on the grid scream off the line

Phil spent the first 15 laps pacing back and forth in the pit and looking at the screen that connects directly to Dan's onboard camera in the car

he had managed to take pole position so it was just a case of if he could keep it that way

on lap 17 Dan speaks into his radio to talk to his pit crew

"box bo-" he begins but is cut off when his car suddenly veers to the left "OH SHI-" he screams before his radio cuts off and an almighty crash is heard from turn 4 before the red flag is immediately flown

"DAN?!!" Phil screams in horror having just seen the whole crash on Dan's onboard camera

"PHIL WHAT HAPPENED?!" Peter shouts as he runs towards the camera and the trembling tech analyst

"he crashed into the barrier on turn 4" Phil says in cold shock, all colour having drained from his face "he must have been going at least 196mph"

"CODE ORANGE. I REPEAT, CODE ORANGE" a voice coming from both Peter's and Phil's radios alert them to the ever worsening disaster on turn 4 as they knew exactly what code orange meant.

Dan's car was on fire.

and no one knew if Dan was still in it.

Phil didn't know how much longer he could stand not running to turn 4 and pulling Dan to safety himself

before he had a chance to debate that with himself the mechanics had towed dan's car, or what was left of it, back to the pit so they could attempt to figure out what caused this
