Chapter 2: The introduction

Jupiter spoke up for me and introduced me to the group of 4. "Everybody, this is Key. He gave me a little trouble on the job today and as a result I had to take him in," She looked a little bothered as she explained. "Kenji has allowed me to keep him here instead of kill him and I promise not to let him get in our way."
I gave her a dirty look. Who said I was going to do anything. I didn't even agree to this.
"I'm sorry for messing up today it will never happen again." She hung her head down and looked at her bare feet.
"You're so hard on yourself," A tall guy, about 6'4 stood up and patted her on the back. He had short choppy black hair and dark brown eyes. He had really built arms that were defined by the tight t-shirt he wore, and legs that showed hard work in the gym. "We all make mistakes." He said playfully.
She nodded her head and smiled at him. "Thanks Ronin,"
The rest of the group nodded. "Welcome to the family Key," Ronin said extending his hand toward me. I took it and shook his firmly.
Jupiter took a seat next to the Blonde woman and I sat awkwardly next to her. She was really the only one I knew here. "Where's Kenji?" The guy across from me asked. He had blonde hair and blue eyes and a seriously nice jaw line. I couldn't even hate. The sides of his head were shaved and the rest of it was semi long and pulled into a ponytail. He had on a similar outfit to mine except for his shirt which was black and short sleeved. "I don't know Damon, he left after talking to me. Probably some business." Jupiter said simply. He nodded.
"Jupiter," There was a woman sitting next to Ronin with long braids in her head and beautiful dark skin. She had hazel eyes that really complimented her skin tone and her voice was very smooth.
Jupiter looked up at her with raised eyebrows.
"Honey, where are your pants?"
Everyone stared at her. She looked away. "Jupiter what did I tell you about not wearing pants. You're not 5."
"Mind your own business Faye." She said sticking out her tongue.
"Ohh you little-" Faye jumped out of her seat and darted for Jupiter. Jupiter screamed and hid behind the woman sitting next to her. "Lea don't let her kill me!!" Lea shook her head. "Ronin got out of his seat and grabbed Faye by the waste hoisting her up on his shoulder. "Let me down Ronin! Let me hit her at least once."

Jupiter screamed again. "Ronin keep your girl away from me."

"I'll try Jupiter, but no guarantees. " He set Faye back down and made her sit in his lap as they both finished dinner. We were eating grilled chicken and rice with a couple of vegetables mixed in. Everybody just talked and laughed and acted almost like a family. I stayed sort of quiet just because I wasn't used to talking to so many people, but I liked it.

We finished up dinner and everyone went their separate ways, going to their homes for the night. "What is this place exactly?" I asked Jupiter as we walked to her car. "Kenji bought this place a while back and we use it as our headquarters. Y'know this is a business."
I nodded honestly feeling worn out for the first time in years.

We reached the garage level and Jupiter pulled some keys out of her pockets. Faye made her put on some pants before she and Ronin left together.
"Look at my baby isn't she pretty?" She asked me pointing at the sleek black mustang with green details. I nodded in approval.
I climbed into the passenger seat suddenly realizing I had no idea where she was taking me. "Jupiter?"

"Yeah?" She said, turning on the car. "Where are we going?"

"Home silly. We live in the same building."

"Oh for some reason I thought you'd take me somewhere else."

"Why? I mean you just don't have a job anymore. It's not like we got rid of your house too."

"YOU WHAT?!" I screamed. Even if I hated my job I still needed the money. Surprisingly, Jupiter didn't even jump when I yelled. She just kept her eyes on the road. "You can't go back there dude, or else you might tell, and if we just take you someone might report you missing. Besides you work for Kenji now. You'll make a lot more money."
I calmed down a little more. "Oh ok, sorry for overreacting."
"It's ok I understand."
"But Jupiter, what do you guys do?" I was genuinely curious. How could a team of 6 people make a lot of money and cause so much trouble?

"We take requests." She said still looking forward.

"What kind of requests?"

"The ones where people don't want to get their hands dirty. You know, like murder."

I sat in my bed staring at the ceiling. I couldn't sleep. Too much has happened today and I was pretty sure I would have nightmares. I mean I didn't really know my office mate well but just the sight of his dead body. It made me want to barf.

I thought about what Jupiter said on the way home. She said she murdered people so easily. Would they make me do it? I didn't want my hands dirty. I wasn't about that life. If only I hadn't said anything.

I tried to sleep but every time I got close his body would haunt me and I'd wake up in a cold sweat. Why did I have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time?

I grabbed my phone off my nightstand and looked through my contacts. Jupiter had given me her number so I could contact her, before I had gone to my room. I decided to call her. She was the only person I could talk to about this. I really hoped she was up.

"Hello?" I heard a super groggy voice on the other line.

"Hey it's Key. I'm sorry, did I wake you up?"

"No, no it's *yawn* fine."

"I can't sleep. I keep... seeing his body."

"Ohhhh. I'm sorry I scared you like that Key. I'm so used to it I didn't think..."

"No don't apologize, you were doing your own thing. Even if it was illegal."
She laughed. She sounded a lot more mature when she was tired.

"Well if it makes you feel better I was the same way when I first started working with Kenji."

"No way."

"Yeah the sight of a gun terrified me and you could forget about dead bodies."

"Are you saying I'll become like you?"

"I don't know. Everyone's different, but you'll get used to it eventually."

"Hopefully," I sighed. "Well thanks Jupiter I feel a little better."

"No problem, oh and for your nightmares, just accept them. You just get used to them and they won't scare you anymore."

"Uhh I'll try it. Goodnight Jupiter."

"Goodnight."

This book is really going in the direction I want and I'm pretty happy with it right now. I don't know how often I'll update but I do want to finish this book.
