My eyes open and try to get used to the unfamiliar environment. My body felt numb while my eyesight was still foggy. The only thing I could recognize were people surrounding me and looking over at me. I felt alarmed so of course I moved them away as fast as possible before I tried to get myself up.
I didn't feel secure. Once my sights started to become clearer, I noticed I was stuck in what looked like a waiting room. 6 chairs exactly in one of the walls with a white cracked clock in the ceiling.
"Where am I?" I mumbled to myself before I quickly glanced over at the same people on the other side of the room. Watching me like I was some distinct species from them.
"What the hell have you done to me ..."
It took a few moments till one of the women replied "Welcome. Didn't know we would have any more showing up." Which didn't help me at all.
"Anymore? What are you talking about? Where am I...who am I...?" I asked while trying to process everything. Why couldn't I remember my name? Who I was? I tried to find a simple explanation to help me understand but when I do it's like a loose string or a puzzle with multiple abnormal shapes and patterns. The reality itself is something I can't comprehend or learn.
"I would tell you if I knew the answer...but I don't." The same woman responded. "This place...it's not what you may think or believe. We've been here for so long or what feels like so long. We tried to escape but it's... not possible."
I took a moment to process everything. Not possible? That's such a lie. All of it is just lies. I can't stay in whatever mess I went in. I need out. NOW. "Okay okay. Thank you for elaborating...that. But here's the thing. That's not possible that we are all STUCK HERE and I just RANDOMLY POP UP HERE."
"I know it sounds difficult to process but it's the truth. You can't see the day or night in here." The lady tried to explain to me but I didn't want to hear any of it. I needed to get out of here before I ended up as crazy as them. Who knows how long they've been trapped here. But one thing is for sure I wasn't going to end up like them for even a second.
"Well if you can't see the day or night in this room maybe, I don't know, LEAVE? The door is right there is it not? It's not locked or touched." I pointed at the black door. "You know what, I'm not going to try to console you, insane people. I'm getting out of here!" I walked over to the door and swung it open. I went through thinking I was outside, but clearly, I wasn't looking enough. The door was connected to a hallway. In the hallway were more black doors with numbers in the top middle of them.
One said 72 while another said 152. Each one of them was completely identical. But that wasn't the strange part. When I tried to open a random door, it just led to another hallway with more of the same black doors. I felt like I was already crazy. I could've sworn too that I heard a deep brown coming from one of the hallways. And that was no animal. It wasn't that long till someone grabbed me by the shoulders and dragged me back into the waiting room.
"Are you crazy man? You're so lucky you weren't out there for long or you were surely dead." One of the men laughed and patted my shoulder a little too aggressively for my liking. But that wasn't even concerning me at the moment. This place wasn't normal. I could feel my heart beating out of my body and my skin covered in goosebumps. I leaned my back against one of the walls while brushing my hair back. And that's when she came.
One of the women headed over to me and sat right next to me. I felt my head ache for a moment but it was as if I knew her somehow. "What...what is this place?" I asked as she started braiding her black hair. "...all I know is that it's a death sentence. A place where innocent people are trapped in this insane maze. Each door either leads to more doors or death. That's what I believe at least. But out of all of the doors, one leads to freedom. There were more of us in here. But every time one leaves... they never come back."
"What do you mean they don't come back?"
"Well we just think that they either went crazy and just disappeared in one of the mazes or the evil took them away for good."
"And by immoral you mean...what exactly?"
"This place holds wickedness. True evil. And I'm not talking about a bear or even an animal. I'm talking about beasts. Creatures that didn't come from here. Beings that have no feeling and no objective other than to kill. That's all they were created for. To KILL."
Creatures out of this earth? I mean yeah it sounds crazy but what hasn't been crazy this whole time I've been awake really? I could see by the way they were acting with their heads down and saying little to no words that they were scared. Terrified even.
"Well...what are we waiting for then?" I asked while standing up and brushing out my suit with my hands.
"...what are you talking about?" The lady questioned and got back up too.
"Well, you said there's one way out of this mess and it's one of the doors. So all we have to do is find the right door. Simple is it not?"
"Well yea it is but did you forget about the whole, I don't know, MONSTERS PART? We don't even know what they are which MEANS we don't know how to kill it. AND the doors switch at some point so there's no way to track it down." One of the men said.
"...And do you know why we don't even know what those creatures are? Because no one has even MADE AN EFFORT to figure it out. And I'm not going to stay here waiting for someone to do it. If it means I'll be the first to discover the devil himself then so be it. I would rather die trying than being a wuss like your corrupted MENTALITIES have become."
I then looked around to find the nearest object near me and picked up a pocket knife. "We can track the doors by making marks. Now I'll be outside this room trying to find a way out of you need me."
It didn't take them that long to follow me out of the room. Was I scared about this? Of course! Who wouldn't be? I never even wanted to leave the room in the first place. But I feel like there's something that I have to find. I don't know anything about me or who I used to be so I might as well try to figure that out on my own.
I looked around the hallways for a random door and spotted one. Door 79. I took a deep breath before I made the first mark on the door and entered what almost felt like the end for me.
