"I'm not that bad!" he cried.
"Yes you are!" She snorted and Alex bit her cheeks to stop herself from laughing.
"Ah come on, I don't play around in my own backyard, it'd be awkward if I had to end it and still see them every day."
"Pity, he seems like a good one," lamented Jess.
"He is pretty cute," Rob admitted with a sly smile.
"I knew it!" she burst, pointing an accusatory finger at him, "Shameless flirt!"
"Well...don't say I told you, but he is an alpha, if you were interested that is," chimed in Cat, with a meaningful look at Robert.
Robert shrugged as though he had already guessed, whereas Alex froze. She reflected on how close they had been and that they had shook hands. She didn't react the way she did with Noah, but what if she had? She had barely been back in the city for five minutes and she'd already crossed paths with an alpha.
Nothing happened. There's no need to worry. He was perfectly friendly and Cat trusts him. But then again, Cat trusts Noah.
"You ok, Wendy?"
"What?" She blinked, her attention pulled back to the room and realised that she had zoned out, "Ah yeah, I was just a little distracted. Sorry, I should really change my clothes, I'll be right back."
She dragged her suitcase and went to the bathroom to change out of her stained jeans. When she came back into the room she got the distinct feeling she had just been the topic of conversation.
"Hey, give me your jeans, I'll wash them for you." said Rob.
Jess went to fridge and retrieved a few beers, popping a cap and pressing a bottle into Alex's hand. She opened two more and made to open a fourth bottle when Cat stopped her.
"Errr...not for me, Jess. Thanks," said Cat, shaking her head.
"Eh? Since when do you turn down a drink, Cat?"
"I just can't drink right now."
Jess looked at her sharply, then scanned Alex's face as though scrutinizing a pair of criminals,"What's going on?"
"Cat? Do you have a bun in the oven or something?" joked Rob.
Alex stared at the ceiling to avoid their gaze.
"Um..." hesitated Cat.
Jess gasped,"No! You do, don't you?"
Both siblings were rapt with attention now.
"Well, it's still very early..."
"Oh my god! Oh my god!" Shrieked Jess, grabbing her brother's arm and jumping up and down excitedly.
"Holy shit!" Rob exclaimed, grinning ear to ear. "That's crazy!"
"I better be your baby's godmother. I'm not taking no for an answer," squealed Jess.
"Who else would I ask?"
"Have you thought about names?"
"I only just found out!"
"But you must have some idea?"
"Nothing set in stone..."
"Come on, spill it. Or let me guess... something Italian after you grandpa like Aurelio or Alessandro."
Cat laughed, "Grandpa's name was Mike, and he grew up in east London. I don't think he even spoke much Italian."
Alex smiled fondly at the memory of her grandfather, "Actually, his name was Michele, but he used to get picked on in school because it was spelled similar to Michelle, so he got fed up and changed it."
