Tuesday came quickly. I woke up to the ring of my phone and groaned rolling to my side to grab it, answering sleepily. "who's calling this fucking early in the morning"
I looked at the clock. It was only 7am but it was 7 am during winter break so basically 4 in the morning. "You should really be cheerier when your boyfriend is trying to wish you a happy birthday you know?"
A wide grin took over my face as I looked back onto the screen, seeing the smiling face of the man I had learned to love so incredibly much. My man.
"Travis" I whispered smiling tiredly. He had remembered, he had actually remembered. "Happy 21st birthday, princess" he chuckled, blowing me a kiss through the camera. My cheeks blushed in a soft scarlet, deepening into a maroon shade when i realized he could see me as well and I had literally just woken up.
"How do you look so good at fucking 7 am in the morning?" i grumbled hiding in my pillows, just enough so I was still able to see him but my face was mostly obscured by my lavender pillows.
He laughed loudly and God just the sound of his laugh had me change my aggregated state into Jell-o. This time it was his turn to blush though while he confessed. "Uhm, I got up an hour ago, showered, shaved and stuff"
I grinned and bit my lip happily. He was just too cute for this world. He had gotten ready, just to facetime me.
Before I could thank him, I heard Abbys cry echo through the apartment and was immediately up. "Duty calls, but I'll see you at 5"
"can't wait" he grinned an blew me another kiss, exchanging I love Yous with me before we hung up and i got up to go look after Abby.
When I got to her bed her face was light red and tears were rolling down her little cheeks. I cooed and picked her out of her little bed, balancing her on my hip. "Hey angel what's wrong hm?" I carefully checked her diaper but that didn't seem to be an issue.
She was probably hungry right? So, I carried her to my old reading chair that now was only used for nursing, trying to latch her on. It did work... for about 4 seconds before she started to cry again.
I put my hand up against her little temple and God she was burning up. That happened sometimes when they were teething, I had learned that but this was really hot.
I went through our little at home pharmacy and found a small bottle that would linder the fever. I really hoped it would help; I hated seeing my little girl in pain and I just wanted to help her as soon as I could.
---
The medicine did not help. By 3 pm Abby was still crying and feverish and God honestly i just wanted to cry as well. I had called my mom and she had called the paediatrician who just said that it happened sometimes and we would just have to deal with it, while cold wraps would help.
I couldn't leave Abby at home under such circumstances and so I texted Travis, cancelling our very first date. Great, not even one date in and he already saw the downsides of dating a single mom. But that's just what it's like. Me and Abby only came as a duo and she was my priority no matter how much I loved Travis, that was my baby girl there.
He didn't even answer, message received and read.
I sighed a little and sat down with her in a chair, rocking back and forth. By 5pm she had just fallen asleep, probably from exhaustion and I was about to as well when I heard a quiet ring from my phone.
Open the door, would you?
I frowned but moved to open quickly hoping they wouldn't ring the doorbell and wake Abby in the process.
My heart melted at the view. IN my doorway stood none other than Travis, packed in boxes and bags, a sheepish grin on his lips. "Happy birthday princess" I teared up and stepped aside to let him in, carefully closing the door after him and guiding him into the kitchen where he carefully put down all the things he had brought.
"What are you doing here, you'll get sick too" I whispered softly cupping his face but was literally swept of my feet and felt his soft lips against mine. I squeaked softly but was muffled by his mouth on mine, claiming my mouth as his.
When he pulled me back up and gently pulled back my head was spinning in all the right ways. His arms snaked around my waist and i could feel his large hands on my back. "Well, you said you couldn't go to the restaurant... So, I decided to bring the restaurant to you."
I watched in awe as he got two boxes out of one of the paper bags, stacking them above each other. "I brought you some chicken tenders, i know they're your favourite, hope that's okay, could u get some plates for us Princess?"
I was speechless I just complied and put them in front of him watching him unload the containers onto them before pausing. "Wait is it okay for you to eat now or would you rather have it later, I can put it back in there"
I shook my head watching him in awe. "Uhm, no Abby's asleep right now so the timing is actually perfect." He gave me a grin, handing me my plate filled with chicken tenders and some fries and grilled veggies.
"that's what I figured since I saw you were online so that's why I didn't ring. I also brought your presents and some tea my mom recommended for the fever, it's supposed to have even helped Jason and he's a tough nut when he gets sick so she swears on it"
I could basically feel my heart pound out of my chest. If this man asked me to marry him right this moment, I wouldn't only say yes but I would sprint to the altar. He was truly perfect, so considerate, so loving, no trace left of the boy from high school. This was a man; this was my man.
Before I could even thank him, Abby started crying making him perk up. "sorry" I said quickly giving him a helpless smile before jogging towards her and picking her up. She really must have been in pain since usually she was so incredibly happy and never cried or only for a very short time.
I tried to feed her again but she didn't want any milk so exhausted and with my sobbing daughter resting on my hip I came back out to Travis, almost having tears in my eyes. He wasn't in the dining room so I assumed he must have left when i left the room 15 minutes ago.
"Here try this, I made some at home so it was already warm in case you needed some right away" his voice came from behind me and he held a nappy bottle filled with a tea like liquid in one hand. I took it giving him an exhausted little smile before doing as he told me, holding the nappy to her lips.
Her lips were quivering but she latched on, using her little hands to hold onto the bottle, quieting down immediately. I looked back up to Travis, my lip quivering as well now. "Thank you so much, y-you didn't have t-to I cancelled on you"
He stepped closer, reaching out and whipped the tears I hadn't even realized were rolling over my cheeks by now. "Princess, you're her mother and you have to take care of your baby, it's natural, so let me take care of you in return"
I full on started crying now, happy tears though. "How did I ever deserve you?"
He moved closer and cupped my face, grabbing my chin to look up at him, meeting my blue eyes with his gorgeous green ones.
"Princess this is just Karma. Life hasn't dealt you nicely until now, you had to put up with enough assholes, including me but now I will do everything in my power to make it up to you, to give you all the love I have and more and to look after you. Just let me take care of the two of you, in exchange. It's all I'm ever going to be asking of you, gorgeous"
