"Priscilla and Maddie would love to hear about what happened! We need to hurry to the cafeteria!" Teddy overheard Ruby exclaim excitedly. "Also, I want more sugar!"
"Ruby, wait!" However, from the sound of quick footsteps and the classroom door opening and then closing, it seemed like Ruby didn't wait. Teddy shook her head at her classmates' antics before finishing up her text to Leah asking if she wanted to meet again during lunch. She then stood up and put her tote bag and backpack on to join her friends, who were at the side of the classroom near the door. Before she could reach them however, she heard the classroom door slam open and a familiar voice yell, "Teddy!"
She turned to see Leah standing there in the doorway, clearly out of breath. "Leah?" she signed, as she moved closer to the other girl. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, I just wanted to get here before you went to lunch," the green eyed girl replied, smiling as she walked up to her. Once she was close enough, however, her smile dropped and she lowered her voice saying, "I actually don't think I can sit at the table where Penelope and I usually do. It feels wrong since she's not there. Can I sit with you and your friends instead?"
"That's okay with me," Teddy signed, "but we should ask them as well."
"Oh, right." Leah soon put a smile back on her face as she turned towards Dora and Sawyer. "Hi, can I sit with your table this lunch?"
"Sí," Dora replied, nodding.
Sawyer was also favorable to this. "Sure! Now we need only one more until there's EIGHT at the table!"
Leah blinked. "What?"
"Oh, nothing."
"Oh, okay then." Leah turned to Ellie next. "Ellie, are you sitting with Ferris and Connor and Nadia again?"
"Well, Lou's there, so yeah," the blonde replied.
"Well, can you tell them that I just felt like switching things up and sitting at a different table today?" Leah asked.
Ellie nodded. "Yeah, I can do that."
"Thanks, Ellie!" Leah exclaimed.
Right, Teddy thought, now that I think about it, Ellie was sitting at the same table as Leah on Monday.
"Well, now that we have that settled, let's go to the cafeteria!" Leah continued.
"Sure," Sawyer agreed. Teddy also nodded in confirmation.
With that, the five of them walked toward the cafeteria. As they reached the cafeteria, Ellie bid farewell to the other four as she hurried over to the table where Ferris and Connor were sitting, along with Nadia and two others that she didn't know. Teddy assumed that one of them was Lou, but she did not know which one. Huh, come to think of it, didn't Penelope and Leah talk about how Lou beat the former in the student council president election? She was surprised to know that Penelope frequently sat with her former election rival, but then again, it was also surprising to see that Ferris and Connor sat together as well.
As the remaining four girls walked to the lunch table she had sat at during Monday, Teddy found that the cafeteria wasn't so bad when she had her noise canceling headphones on. Because she had to still hear Professor Four's instructions, she hadn't actually turned on the noise cancelling aspect in school until now. In both today's and yesterday's math class, she had simply used her noise canceling headphones as normal headphones. Fortunately, however, she remembered how overwhelming and overstimulating the cafeteria was on Monday, which gave her the foresight to turn on the noise canceling headphones before she entered the cafeteria. While some of the chatter still managed to get through, it was definitely an improvement from Monday. As they reached the more secluded lunch table, Teddy turned off the noise canceling headphones so that she could hear her friends.
