Chapter 2: "Do you think about her a lot?"

Start from the beginning

He sighed a long breath out and looked at me with a weak smile. He then leant over and cranked up the radio for the last few minutes of the journey. I guess that conversation was over then. Well played Fee, well played. Well I'd tryed my best.

As the sun rose through the window I couldn't help but think of the day that started all of this chaos.

I grabbed a Coke from the fridge as I quickly sped through into our pack living room. I quickly straightened my shirt down with my clammy hands as I placed my Coke on the small coffee in the centre of the room. My back was rigid against the chair that I took a seat in. My father immediately whipped his head around to the source of the sound of someone making themselves comfortable in his presence. God forbid. He glared when his eyes found mine and I begrudgingly got up and dragged my sorry butt off the comfy seat. My mother flashed me a pitying look as if to say "sorry about him". A glance wasn't going to make our relationship better though was it? I returned the gesture by refusing to meet her eyes and looking towards the door in anticipation of who was about to walk through it. Olly came to stand by my side. As he did he patted my back and we took our positions next to our parents. We were only there for show on occasions like these.

I looked towards my father who was standing two places away from me. He was a large man. As alpha of the second largest pack in England he exuded authority just by standing. At 50 he looked very good for his age with only small patches of grey strands showing in his otherwise matt black head of hair. His expression however, was not one of kindness and gentle authority as an alpha should hold. It was one of stern authority and malice. Sure, as an alpha he kept the pack together, but we weren't a family as we should have been. There was no love and support, only division and spite.

Suddenly, there was a firm knock on the door of our 20 room pack house. Dom, the beta of our pack practically lunged towards the door in order to greet the much anticipated guests. As soon as the wooden brown door was swung on its hinges a long trail of about ten people entered our living room. As they all crowded in, some of the shorter females were left stuck at the back, their faces obscured. A tall authorititive figure stood at the front, clearly the representative of the group. His short grey hair framed his round face.

"Alpha Eliot. I'm glad you could come to discuss the issues we will no doubt have to face together" My father reached his hand out to take the other man's.

The man clasped his hand and shook it up and down once "Alpha Shelley. It's my pleasure. I think with a little cooperation our packs will be able to work together well enough to end the threat"

My father smiled at this. It was a rare sight, he didn't tend to smile when he wasn't putting on a show. "I'm glad to hear it. I'll have one of my pack members show you to your rooms but first let me introduce you to my two children. Ophelia, Oliver". We both took a small step forwards and nodded towards the tall man standing in front of us.

"Hello. It's nice to meet you" He returned the nod and called his own children forwards. "I have three children. Unfortunately Lucas couldn't be here today as he's otherwise engaged. However this is Eve" A short blonde haired girl hopped forwards. She exuded energy and happiness. She flashed us a quick grin and turned to look at her sister. "And this is Poppy" This time an even shorter girl with black hair took a timid step forward. Her long hair tumbled in front of her face and she held her hands clasped in front of her. As she stepped she lifted her head to reveal a dainty face with small elfin features and shocking green eyes.

I heard two small but audible gasps. One in front of me from Poppy and one to the right hand side of me from Olly. I looked between the two unsure of what was going on. As I looked at Oliver all I could see was a look of complete and utter adoration and wonder. I was pretty shocked to say the least, I'd never seen him with that expression before. Looking for some answers I glanced at Lily. Instead of finding the same look, her face held one of complete shock and horror. Her small hand flung to her mouth as Oliver seemed to take a step towards her.  Meanwhile, everyone else in the room seemed to be absolutely silent. Many looked happy to see this exchange whilst Alpha Eliot looked grave and unnerved.

As all this was going on I was still in the corner hopelessly trying to figure out what the hell was going  on. That is, until I heard one small word being whispered from the mouth of my brother."mate"

Ohhhh. The realisation had suddenly dawned on me. Olly and Poppy were mates. It all suddenly slotted into place and as it did I was hit with a wave of intense happiness for my brother. He'd been waiting for this moment for years. Sometimes he woud randomly ask me what I thought his mate would look like as he imagined the one person who could make him feel completely and utterly whole.

All was rosy in the living room of the pack house until Poppy dropped her shocked expression and the one of horror took over her face. Without any warning she spun around, pushing her sister Eve out the way and leapt through the door from which she just entered. As she raced off down the road the whole family watched her shift and bound into the surrounding forest from the window.

My brother's expression changed from one of complete wonder to one of complete confusion as he moved onto the balls of his feet, ready to chase after his mate. Stopping him in his stride however, Alpha Eliot grabbed his arm and held him in place.

"Ahh Oliver. This is an unfortunate turn of events" Alpha Eliot looked down on my brother with a look of pity

"What do you mean? We're mates" My brother looked down at the firm grip the Alpha had on his arm. He obviously wanted to be released so he could chase after Poppy.

"But you see, unfortunately, my daughter Poppy..." He coughed into his hand and avoided my brother's gaze. "She's already mated".

Olly's face crumpled as he sank back into the seat. He put his head in his hands as the onlookers in the room nervously glanced around, unsure of what to do in this unusual situation.

I quickly ran over to my brother. I mean, I didn't know what to do either. All I knew was that right now, he needed someone to be there for him, and that was exactly what I was going to do.

Poppy never came back and my brother was never quite the same again. It was shortly after that, that we both decided to leave the pack.  Olly was ridiculed and isolated, despite being the next Alpha, for having his mate run away from him. Even my father looked down on him for the fact that Poppy was already mated. When I found my brother in his room that night, packing his things, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to follow him. Ever since then we've been situated in the North of England, living in various hotels and occasionally travelling to accomodate Olly's job. I mean, we had to fund our life somehow and even though the constant moving wasn't the ideal situation, it was the only one we had.

"Oi. Earth to Fee. Earth to Fee" My brother, seemingly back to his usual self flicked my ear and nodded his head to something in front of him. I followed his eyes to the huge manor house in front of me. Wow. So this is what the pack house of the largest pack in England looks like. Nice.

"I g-guess we're here then" I stuttered looking up in wonder at the huge, Tudor style house. It was beautiful.

"I guess so" Olly looked pretty wonderstruck too. "Ready to do this?" He asked me.

I took a big gulp and nodded. "Ready as I'll ever be. Let's just get in there, get his permission and then get out of here" I looked over at Olly.

"Aye aye captain" He saluted me as he opened the door to his car and hopped out. Well here goes nothing.
