"Hey Ma." I said walking in the house. She held onto my now almost  2 year old brother. "Maurice." I said and he ran to me. "What's up lil bro." I said and he gave me a high five. "I help mommy." "He said. "Us make cookies." He said pointing to the kitchen. I smiled, "thanks, that's good man." I said, putting him down. He went back to what he was doing, which was making faces at Zion, who was on the floor. Jr was in a crib sleeping I guess.  "Where's Brittany?" "She's in the car, a little upset. We had, well we didn't even get to eat lunch with her mom today." My mom sighed liked she knew something. "I worry about her, she barely calls me now." That was a shock, even when Brittany stopped speaking with her mom all together, my mom spoke to her daily. "I'll make y'all some to go plates of dinner.

I followed my mom into the kitchen. My nose filled with the aroma of sweets, and  fried foods. I pulled  three Tupperware bowls from the cabinet filling the first one I grabbed with cookies she and my brother baked. Chocolate Chip, and peanut butter. She laughed as I ate one and replaced it with another. "You'll spoil your appetite." She said. That was not true, whatever she cooked is gonna get demolished. She opened the pots to reveal homemade mashed potatoes loaded with cheese and bacon, baked chicken and broccoli. "You might want another bowl." She said, taking a pan from the oven that held baked steaks. "Mama, you cook too much." I said rubbing my stomach. She kissed my cheek. "Well I know you don't get home cooked meals anymore." I sighed. Here we go. Every since the Jasmine incident my mom has been pressuring me to find a good girl, so she could at least feed me, and give me sex when I wanted. I shook my head, if she can't accept Brittany then it won't work.

"Come on Mama, can't you just cook for me forever." She laughed. "Hey Ma." I heard behind us. I turned to see Brittany guess she got tired of sitting in the car. "Hey baby." My mom spoke back and Brittany came over and hugged her, leaving a kiss on her cheek. "Smells good." She said taking the cookie from my lips. "You can share." She semi yelled when I scrunched up my face at her. My mom laughed at us. "So when you and my son gonna stop playing around?" Brittany started choking on the cookie She was eating. "I know you and Mikey not together no more, Chris told me." "Mama stop." I demanded, she was so embarrassing. "I'm gonna get the kids." She said dusting her hands off.

"I let the office know that we'd be back in the morning." I told Brittany who was changing Jr diaper. "okay." She said.  Even she was done she gave him to me. Lil Nigga looked just like Mike ass. He was still sleeping so I laid him in the crib turning on the monitor. Zion was up clapping her hands as Brittany played with her hair. She was watching Bubble Guppies. "Pu Pu" she mumbled. There was a fish dog on tv, so I guess she meant puppy, I don't know. "Ready to eat now?" I asked. "No, I can wait." She said. "You okay?" I asked, something seemed off. She shrugged her shoulders. I climbed in bed next to her and she laid her head on my shoulders. I guess right now this was as perfect as life would get.

"Hello." I mumbled. It was way too early to be up right now but the consistent ringing in my ear wouldn't allow me to continue sleeping. "Baby, something happened." I sat up in bed, my mom was panicking and I didn't know why. She just kept crying in the phone, mumbling something about killing. "Mama I can't understand you, please calm down." "He killed her, Ricky killed her." My heart dropped into my stomach. "What?" "She's dead, he shot her." I looks at Brittany who was sleeping so peacefully. I sighed, "mama you okay?" She sniffled she was close with Brittany's mom. "Yea, I'll call you later." She said hanging up the phone before I could comfort he any further. I got sitting on the side of the bed. I was going over all the ways I could tell Brittany what my mom told me. I switched the light on and walked around to the side of the bed she slept on. "Britt Bratt." I spoke softly as I shook her. She opened her eyes slightly, "what's wrong do I need to get Jr.?" "No, we need to talk." I said. He looked at the clock, "Ewww, Chris it's too early." She said closing her eyes again. "Brittany for real. My mom just called." "Everything okay?" She asked now sitting up.

I started to cry. "Chris what's the matter?" Her voice sounding like my moms, panicked and unsure. "Your mom, she got shot." She jumped out the bed, "I gotta go, what hospital I gotta go." She was in such a rush, but she didn't need to go anywhere it was too late. "B, she died, she gone." I mumbled. She dropped her keys and just stared at me. "I'm sorry." I whispered to her. She spoke but no sound came out. "I'm sorry." I apologized again. Tears filled her eyes as she just stared at nothing. She fell to the floor. "She's dead?" She asked in disbelief. I wrapped her up in my arms, wanting to.shield her from everything but that was no use. This was a hurt that I couldn't take away.
