We write description by using our five senses, sight, touch, smell, sound, and taste. It is good to first practice making a list that would describe a place, thing or nounFirst, choose a place, thing or person to describe. Next, describe what you see; color, texture, shape. What does it look like? Come up with a list of metaphors or similies to compare it to. Third, go through all the other senses; what do you taste? Smell? Feel? Hear? Once you've got this all written down, you can then pick and choose what to include in your final description. It is good also to describe the place through the eyes of your main character, and as he is doing something i.e. walking through a crowded restaurant to get to the booth where his friends are waiting and waving at him.
