The Obelisk of Heaven.

He searched the ruins for valuable things.

Half deformed buildings were barely standing.

Once mighty structures are reduced to dust.

He happened upon a great obelisk.

It was made of vigorous, white marble.

It gleamed beautifully under the sun.

It cast a shadow of enormous length.

He moved slowly, as if afraid of it.

He looked closer and saw some engravings.

They wrapped around the base of the structure.

"This is the battering ram of heaven."

"All gates tremble and fall before it's might."

His eyes traced the imposing obelisk.

It could easily be sold and reused.

Yet he could sense an overwhelming force.

It emanated from the ancient ram.

He reached forward and touched the white marble.

It felt smooth and solid against his palm.

Fear seemed to tighten its grasp of his brain.

He punched the obelisk and broke his hand.

He crumbled to the ground beneath his feet.

The obelisk loomed menacingly now.

He saw its geometric perfection.

He wept at his forthcoming destruction.
